    Hello,

Recently got back into guitar as a retirement project.
Have seen lots of IR's on the sister site but can't find them with the search function (I'm old and befuddled ).
    Can you direct me?
    Thx in advance :)

Type in cab, go to Search in categories -> Samples -> presets, patches, impulses

STL Ignite with Ownhammer cabs works great. Also, AA Nebula with a Fender Deluxe Reverb from Signal To Noise is very very nice. Especially with some 6V6 tubes in front from Ownhammer for Nebula as well.

    Sure! It's Noize with a z actually: http://signaltonoize.com/?p=1765

But you need AA Nebula to use this. They have a few promos a year when it costs only 100EU.

i own a handful of great tube amps so i tend to prefer IRs over amp sims personally. i've tried a lot of IRs, find myself gravitating towards ownhammer and celestion ones more often than not. they sound the most "correct" to me

    Thanks for the replies.
    Am checking all out.
Would love the complete Celestion set but $499 US, ouch.
    Am sure it's worth it.
Am looking at Ownhammer on the Line 6 site as well, since these impulses will be used in Helix native.
    Thanks again!

Check out Jason Sadites on youtube. Despite what many will argue, you can get comparable tones out of the stock cabs in Helix Native without embarking on an endless search through millions of IRs.

True. And in my opinion the typical cabinet impulse responses all sound like shit. Just different flavors of shit. This is of course matter of taste. A lot of people sure seem to like them.

What I've found is you can make all of them different flavors of nice - to my ears - by slapping another IR on top of them. A reverb. A short IR of a real room. Algorithmic reverbs simply don't cut it. Make it really wet too. Takes the harsh ear piercing quality right off of everything and gives the sound depth, swim and shine. Once you find an ambience IR you really like, you can't believe how you managed to play with virtual guitar amps before. It's difficult to find good ones though. IR libraries tend to be filled with everything but small tightish rooms that work well with guitar sounds. Altiverb library has few good ones, but the plugin itself has a lot of latency. Again, matter of taste of course, but this is my experience.

edit: just to add, my point is; after figuring out the ambience IR trick, I found I no longer had need to endlessly hunt for new cab IR's. The ones Helix Native - or pretty much any other guitar amp suite has - offer plenty of "base flavors." Being able to virtually put them in different rooms gives you huge variety.

Depends on what type of music you want to play. Clean or Heavy? Best way to know what fits your needs is to try some and find what you like most then buy the best packs that fit your needs best.

It takes time to sit there sifting through so much of it, saving ones you like along the way. I save mine into the plugin I'm using if it has an IR loader built into it.

i like to do this a lot also. will typically route my guitar track to an aux channel running in parallel, instantiate a 100% wet room reverb on the aux, EQ it just a bit, and then tuck the aux channel under my main sound to taste. adds a little something extra in terms of depth

I've found some great things in free IR packs. God's Cab Pack and a few of Seacow Cabs packs come to mind.
From the paid packs, ML Sound Labs comes to mind. His cab packs provide a decent variation in sounds while not being huge in size, unlike Ownhammer. Also, give his free IR named "The Best IR in the World" a try as well! I was skeptical after I saw the name at first, but it actually is really good and works great with both heavy and clean tones.

I have too! There are tons of stuff just a search away on several search engines. Also searching forums I amassed a ton of great free stuff, often already compiled and organized for me. Using your stock IR's and free ones would be the best place to start. It's what I did which gave me a feel for what I'm doing before I knew what to do or what I liked yet.

That ML Sound Labs multi IR loader plugin always caught my attention but I never gave it a try because I already had enough tools for that. But it looks very easy to use and functional, just forget what it was called at the moment.

Ownhammer, Celestion, Redwirez, Dr. Bonkers, Lancaster, Urgitone and Bogren Digital with some others I can't remember right now which I find pretty great. All have lots of variety to choose from. Everything from clean to heavy tones. From vintage to modern. Just have to dig and try a lot of them.

It's still taking me tons of time to really get down to grips with which IR packs I like and from which brands. I learn something new each session and sometimes surprise myself on which brands I thought I might like from trying in the real world but then finding IR's from brands I thought I'd hate because it's still a different ball game than hardware live VS software in the studio.

I love Mesa Boogie, Engl, Peavey, Fender & Marshall a lot. I find it's less about brands in the studio and more about which cab sims sound great to your ears then looking for more like them. But first you have to dedicate lots of time to searching and sifting.

Let your own ears be the judge because there are many variables, the types of music you play, the amps, the guitar brands the you use, the string gauges. Personally I just try combinations that my ears like. most amp sims have a good selection of IRs, so just have fun with them, you will surely find some great sounds.

Also try Virgo and Surrey (free 30 day trials from Acustica Audio). You can even load up just the amp or the cab and combine with e.g. Ownhammer IR's.

I will humbly suggest the 650 Assorted Cabinet Impulses zip thats been floating around the internet for the past 5 years. Its old, but there are some real gems in there - especially the Fender impulses with the Brit Class A2 amp. I like mixing those with the Redwirez free Marshall 1960.

oh, and add Oril River reverb after the IR, really sounds nice.

At the front end, try Swanky Amp free and turn off its cab. Throw the TS808 from TSE (and any preamp if necessary) in front of the amp, add some delay at the end and its, IMO, one of the best chains you can put together and all for free.

    So like this:
    Preamp
    TS808
    Swanky
    NadIR
    Oril River
    Delay

It's a matter of taste like everything. One I like quite a lot is "Rehearsal Room" from Kontakt IR library. It's not on the subtle side and might be way too big and roomy for most people when used really wet (like I like it) but it sounds natural and balanced (high pass filter and eq to taste still). The ripped library is floating around somewhere. I think the sister site might have it. And like I said the altiverb library has few really good more subtle rooms that can be used very wet. Some libraries I've gone through don't have a single one I like.
