Software that you know you should love...but just don't.

    I understand. But I love the crystal clearness of Serum's sound. I hated it initially, as I hated it more because all the presets were dubstep / madness oriented. After I deleted all those libraries and chosen few but very good presets, it became my go to VST. I like to use presets and only modify them up to my taste, cause I have no good abilities to make a preset from scratch, especially in Serum.

    great topic.
    omnisphere. its a very powerful and flexible synth. flexible is a big deciding factor for me. but it is just too big for me, the HD space is not worth it. i will take any basic subtractive 100MB synth over it.

    Omnisphere for sure. I have 200gb of sounds because I just collect anything that sounds interesting and I have the HD space, yet I haven't used it in months. I'd say 1 out of every 20 sounds is decent, and they are mostly custom libraries. There are some really good preset packs floating around though.

    I also second Arturia. Pigments sounds are booty, and their V synths sound cheap to me compared to other VSTi's.

    I do too, though it's my main virtual instrument. Clunky, heavy and unintuitive, but most good samples are made for it...

    As for McDSP, it seems they are okay plugins only as long as you're completely blind.

    I love *some* of Arturia's stuff. The Fairlight and Synclavier are both epic. The CS80 I use all the time. The Moogs are a bit outdated (especially the Mini) but I still get a kick from them- heck I get a chubby mainly just because I owned a Mini for 30 years and I just like looking at it. The new Tron is limited but pretty damn great sounding- especially "tronning" your own wave files. The rest of them range from "meh" (most of the other analog synths) to "god I hate this" (the pianos and such). And there's a special place in hell for the B3-V. What a colossal piece of sh*t.

    I agree,these ensembles hav their own sound,they are unique at least.Don't forget Super 8,and Monark!It's just another analog emulation but it sounnds so sweet.
    I agree,UVI Falcon's sound is way different from others plugins.It really shines in a mix,it does the difference in my humble opinion.
    Some months ago I wanted to sell it and happily I didn't do that.
    In the meantime I'm playing with its sampling capabilities,and it's killer in this area too.I mean sound quality wise.I made amazing textures and "Alpha Juno alike" leads with its IRCAM granular engines from a trombone sample!

    doesnt anything linear and normal feel weird when used to Session view and an arrangement that cant even play in sync due to PDC?

    reaper is as traditional as it gets really

    i install mcdsp hd everything bundle osx and put openssh lib in usr lib folder but when i launch pro tools 10.3.10 it skip asking ilok how we can make it work there ?_?

    REAPER! I hate Reaper because after MANY hours with it, I concluded that I'm not intelligent enough to use it efficiently!! And that was after having learned a couple of other DAWs fairly well (Ableton, Studio One)

    So in Reaper it always took me HOURS of poring through documentation, forums, youtube videos etc. etc. before I could solve problems or learn how to do things -- and then because it was so complicated, I would often forget the damn procedures.

    I believe REAPER is a great thing, but it's just not for people who are a bit slow on the uptake. It should come with a warning sticker: "Warning -- for high IQ users only"

    Certainly, Reaper was too much for my poor brain, I'd prefer my bank balance was above my lackluster IQ, and I could give up on Steinbug! Arturia's fx are great, prolly the only thing they've ever done worth a damn. Their crappy synths? Not so much...

    A lot of people raved about it when it was released.

    I found the interface to be unintuitive for sound design. It often took me much longer to get close to the sound I wanted with DrumComputer than it would with other VSTs, especially kicks and snares. Sure, I could just hit the randomize button until I get close to that sound. But - while it has improved with later versions - like any other randomizer, it's a hit or miss.

    It seemed as though most of the sound was coming from the "resynthesis" module (which to me was just a sample player with a bandpass filter and no envelope). The other two modules were being used for clicks, taps, and other transients. The randomizer wasn't doing anything interesting with them, which was a bit disappointing as I expected it to make much better use of them to make interesting sounds, when I couldn't because of the unintuitive interface. Or maybe I'm not smart enough for it.

    I don't know... Recently gave it another shot, and I still didn't like it.

    I started to like REAPER as I changed shortcuts/keybinds, customized the interface so it didn't burn my eyes, etc.

    I didnt read the entire topic, but lets go....

    Remember guys, the Arturia stuff are emulation of vintage gear, and very especific vintage gear.

    The type of music that you are creating used to put the type of gear that you trying to put this on?

    I mean, I do hip hop, and I (try to) play like 60's and 70's samples, but with my original melodies and chords, and Arturia stuff sits amazing on my tracks!

    When I try to do something more "modern" I go with Omnisphere, Sylenth1, stuff like that.

    I hope I was clear enough.

    maybe you just wanted Back to easy workflow in aleton and didnt kno it and it was better for you needs kind of
    i agrree stuff can be deep nerd in reaper but its about no mood for me when knowing fast routine and workflow in old DAW

    there also reaper user who dont get aleton gui , true story

    It's FL Studio for me.
    I was never able to squeeze any good sound from built-in VSTi's, and the pattern workflow just isn't good with me. I rely on lots of miniscule variations to my "patterns" and in FL it means creating lots of unnecessary single-use entities. In something like Studio One, you just double click at any part of the song and edit as necessary. Here you have to right-click at a specific point, choose "Make Unique", rename the pattern, move it to desired position in pattern explorer or whatever it's called, then and only then you can edit it without affecting your whole song.
    Now imagine doing it 20 times for 20 miniscule variations. How people put up with this I don't know.
    But the mixer is really flexible and the modulation options are second only to Bitwig, which can modulate yo momma with the frequency of her tower-sized vibrating dildo if need be.
    Then again, she can do it herself.
