  1. I'm wondering how many people on this site would identify themselves primarily as Jazz Musicians.

Good for the undecided. So all are in :mates:

  5. It gives me an error when I enter 1 choice. I don't deserve to be a member of this group. I can't even conduct a simple poll. Give me one warning point for stupidity.

I chose both because I don't play jazz but love the genre as such.

For what I know there are only 3 complex kind of music/genres that melodic experimental music in "theory" will fall into, classical, jazz and Indian classical, jazz is much more popular than the other 2

I am guessing that a new complex style could arise from electronic music, as electronic instruments are not limited to scale temperament and can easily use all the audible spectrum using mathematical formulas, harmonic just intonation, microtonal arrangements, euclidean rhythms and all the rest of possibilities of the other 3 genres/theory.

Until that I guess everything 'modern' falls into Jazz theory

Jazz was popular until around middle of the last century (don't forget that not everyone lives in US and even there it's not popular type of music anymore, so it's hardly a popular music).
Meanwhile filtered classical music is in every movie/video game soundtrack, so it's hard to say that classical music (or at least its remains) are not popular.
Indian music... is popular in India 1.366 billion population (in 2019), so it may be more popular than jazz, too.

  12. I don't know why I even posted this! On the front page of audioz, members can identify their preferred genre and Jazz receives a 3.6% rating among members. I will close this. Assuming I'm intelligent enough, which is highly doubtful.

Well, you as a member can't, but we as mods can, if you want us to.

EDIT: I thought you were talking about the thread.

Perhaps I need a (mental) doctor)... this thread is totally useless yet I loved it. Shame the poll is closed. I would've loved to vote. Yes and no is my favorite vote when it comes to music.

If a tax department asks a Rock musician, an EDM musician, a Country musician, a jazz musician, a Pop musician, an Indie, Reggae and any style/genre label anyone wants to place themselves in for performing, what their career is making them income - Every one of them will more often say, "I'm a musician".

We're all musicians. The stylistic label in front really should not matter, but sometimes, to some people, it does. We're all guilty of answering stylistic questions with a specific style at least once possibly.
I love all music if it's good.

There is another category all music styles fall under if they are doing it in concept:

    "Improvised music".
    cheers

A Kind of Blue by Miles Davis was rated in the top 50 selling albums of all time at one point, and for 50 years after its recording, it was still on the charts. I believe only the Beatles and Pink Floyd could say that. I am happy to be wrong, but if so, I'm not too far off.
I hear Jazz in movies all of the time. It's simply another alternative and having choices and variety is a beautiful thing. I'd never say it's not popular considering how difficult it is to get tickets to Montreux, Newport and piles of other jazz festivals. They're often more expensive than a lot of rock concerts too for that matter.

nobody like to be labeled, specially if you are a creator/composer.

but in practice if you need studio musician a jazz one will be much more prepared and able to play any kind of modern style, specially in experimental music.

this impressed years ago me as i thought were samples, only jazz musicians could play like this, except for the singer, I can do that lol

I came late to the game and was very confused as to why I couldn't tally my vote...voting was already closed but I kept trying. I too deserve a warning point.
