I have been using Ebay since 2005. Mostly as a buyer, lately as a seller as well.
I have seen some dumb decisions by big companies in my life, but this one is probably at the top.
What happened with freedom of choice ?
Transaction will take days to show up on your bank and what if the buyer changes his mind, oh boy what a pita process that will be.
Forcing you to use banks where they can control every cent is another issue as well.

Thanks for the information, I had to read that first and also found a critic from the consumer center. Doesn't look good to us ... (everyone can figure out where this is going).
" In the future, buyers and sellers will have to store their bank details on Ebay. "

    Online marketplace
New Ebay rules cause customer frustration

In the course of the year the online marketplace Ebay wants to introduce a new payment processing system and increase its own commission at the same time. Consumer protection is critical of this.

The Internet auction house Ebay is changing its payment methods, this process causes unrest. As the company announced, it would like to have control over payment processing in the future and is also increasing the commission. So far, Ebay has kept ten percent of the pure purchase price for itself.

In the future, however, the commission will also be allocated to the flat-rate shipping costs. This can be chosen independently by the sellers up to certain upper limits. So dealers still have a profit margin here. That should now change: Ebay plans to raise the ten percent commission on the total sum of the purchase price and all other fees in the future. Ebay had already introduced a similar model for this in 2015, but this was withdrawn a year later.

So far, after a successful auction, it has been possible to determine how the payment will be made between the dealer and the buyer. Whether by bank transfer, the payment service provider PayPal or - if the goods are picked up directly anyway - also in cash on site. Basically anything is possible as long as the buyer and seller agree. In the future, buyers and sellers will have to store their bank details on Ebay. Whether credit card or direct debit from the current account, there will be no way around Ebay in the future.

Ebay says: “Buyers are increasingly demanding electronic payment methods that most private sellers cannot offer on their own.” The new payment processing will then be so broad that payments will also be possible via Apple Pay and Google Pay. Paypal, the payment processor that was once founded by Ebay and then sold, will also be integrated into the system.

Meanwhile, in internet forums one can read of dissatisfied users of the platform who are not happy about this interference with the autonomy of the users. On the one hand, the new commission rule has met with criticism from dealers. On the other hand, the new payment processing is complained.

Mathias Hufländer from the Bremen Consumer Center is also concerned about the process, but inquiries about the “payment problem” have still been received. Hufländer suspects that this is in all likelihood due to the schedule that Ebay set to introduce the innovation - gradually until the end of this year. “The inquiries will probably increase from summer onwards,” emphasizes the consumer expert.
Ebay wants to make its online platform more secure, wants to be able to track transaction routes better. The company says: "With its payment processing, the online marketplace now offers private sellers a simple, uniform user experience and optimizes processes by creating a central location where they are sold and paid for."

Hufländer observes the development critically: “Then why did you sell PayPal back then? It seems as if a second PayPal is being created. "
The payment processor PayPal was integrated into the Ebay group in 2002, enabled the immediate transaction of smaller amounts of money and at the same time protected buyers and sellers from fraud. This trustee system has been working successfully to this day, but was split off from Ebay in 2015 and floated on the stock exchange. “At the end there is a vote with the feet. Time will tell whether Ebay has done itself a favor with the decision, ”says Hufländer. The Ebay classifieds portal, which has become the market leader in Germany since 2009 and, according to the Online Research Association (AGOF), the online offer with the widest reach, has already led to a relocation of the auction system. Last year it became known that Ebay had sold the classifieds portal to the Norwegian internet company Adevinta for 9.2 billion US dollars.

    Really, hundred ways?
There is only one way to get paid from now on and that is trough your bank as you will probably have to send your bank ID for verification.
Lockal pickup and checks are the other way.
    Enlighten us please.

I just did a panel with eBay the other day regarding this. I'm part of a Seller feedback group. I brought up how big a problem this has become, and how it now takes several days to get paid. It doesn't look like its going to change.

So the buyer is still be able to pay via Paypal, but the money goes then from PP to ebay (or this Adiyen service) and from there to the seller ? Strange things are happening. I wonder how Paypal is ok with this.

Ebay bought Paypal and sold it in 2015 with a 5 year transition period which is now ending.

Nothing changes for the buyer, yet, but a lot changes for the seller, for the worse that is.

The problem with this is it will take days for the money to show up on your bank account and if you get scammed or buyer changes his mind you could have troubles with your bank, closed account, it could even affect your credit penalties etc, there are a lot more things that could go wrong now.

It is not stupid. Paypal does a lot of things in denial. 5-7 days for funds transfer. I know of people who waited over three weeks for funds to transfer.
Paypal has been hacked and so have paypal users. Paypal will deny all the above and they're full of shit.
Their fees are also more than many other international/Global fund transfer companies who have never been hacked.

People complain about direct to bank but it the problem there is not what they chose more often than not, it is the bank. If a person has a lot of transfers and makes money from it, all they have to do is speak to the bank and organise a set clearance length for a specific account (e.g. Ebay).
If you have to pay a clearance fee for every single transaction instead of a single annual fee, then perhaps look at a new bank.

Funds transfer from your paypal account to your bank may take a few days, but it also depends on where you live and your bank.
Payments for products, physical, digital or service was done immediately, i never had to wait.
Now, with the new rules, everyone will have to wait for money to show up on your bank.
Paypal always resolved disputes when people tried to scam me, all they needed was some kind of proof.

This will negatively affect mostly small sellers.

Please note: New eBay terms and conditions will apply from July 22nd, 2021.
Better buy or sell before 07/22/2021.
Then comes the new terms and conditions! If you reject the terms and conditions, you will be excluded.
That's how it works today at the big tech companies. Make Money!

People do know that Paypal is not the only one out there? It's just the most well known like AT&T and Telecom south of the equator were a long time ago with telephony for many years until people realised there were other companies offering similar and better deals and better service.

That's great. Now you don't have to give your bank details or PayPal address to every single buyer. In addition, you don't have to accept PayPal (I don't), but the buyer can still pay via PayPal.

Afaik it's July 15th. But the year is correct: 2020 (that's last year, in case you didn't notice).

Not in every country. In fact a large amount use secure credit card payments with their own SSL interface and their own certificate. Verisign to name but one. Some people do not want to pay for the certificate and use Paypal. They will be affected. In the long run it also costs them more.

I agree that some smaller vendors are affected in many countries, but again, not all countries and not all people. Now they are using banks and not Paypal at ebay. While that is not welcomed by a lot of people, it is by others.

Just had my first payout under this new system. Sold an item on Sunday, buyer paid on Monday, money transferred into my bank account today. Regardless of any fears over control and freedom of choice (which I agree with), the payouts still seem to be pretty quick.
