    How do you make the trumpet/sax like synth at the start of this song?

    My first approach would probably be checking brass presets for FM8 and fine tune the closest one.

    I got very close with a lowpassed and reverbed trumpet preset on Dexed (eventhough this recording was done 5 years before the DX7 came out). There was a recent post here with shitloads of presets (which I already had). Free and free (win/win).

    Easy. Two slightly detuned sawtooth oscillators, one louder than the other, going through a 12dB low pass filter with envelope controlled cutoff, attack about 150ms and decay about 2s. Add reverb and you're there.

    Yes. To me it just sounds like a simple yet expressive subtractive saw patch. The "magic" here is in the arrangement and how it is played.

    Try this in either OBXD or Tyrell synth to get some vintage characteristics.
