British Kolorizer saturation effect plugin (VST3/AU) FREE for a limited time

Master Tones has released a new audio plugin that is designed to make your sound fat or bright with the turn of a knob.

British Kolorizer is a saturation effect modeled after a British tube amplifier, coloring the sound with a more dynamic timbre.

From vintage to vavoom, the British Kolorizer, or the “BK” for short, takes sound to a whole new level. The opulent sound of tomorrow, comes to you today. The BK delivers the sharp ultra-modern advantage of AI.

AI makes it possible to interpret between the various forms of sound and science to analyze the system and perfect your music creation. The BK is endowed with the characteristics of human intellectual processes that can discover threads and learn, making repetition a thing of the past. The feeling is cozy and intimate, just like that of an exquisite sunset.

The plugin includes 10 presets to get you started. Modeled with the Ariosa engine, the plugin has imperceptible latency with no comprise in quality (96kHz internal computing sampling rate).

British Kolorizer is available for Windows and Mac in VST3 and AU plugin formats. It is free to download until June 17th, 2021 (regular $149 USD).

I downloaded it earlier and tried it out on a drumbus, and maybe i did something wrong but it seems to have a weird hiss that just didn't sound right to me.

Wtf man, why not include Quantum Mechanics and Natural Holistics into the mix,
    they got short of imagination?

And how is a Digital AI going to give you the warm Brownness of an Exquisite Sunset on a 70's fully carpeted wooden cabin,
brown sweater, corduroy pants and matching sofa covers?

Well, if a product cannot be sold at all. Nobody needs it, has done poorly in the tests and reviews. You can with a targeted PR marketing strategy that attracts people to the website. Maybe someone will buy something else. At least then we have your data that we can still monetize.

Hey thanks! Free stuff is always free stuff!

That said, I didn't quite take to this, it's pretty harsh sounding. I mean I like the Fat section but the Bright one is brutal, and not in a good way.

Even if you manage to balance the high end then the Fat goes into clipping if you stare at it a moment too long. It _kind of_ sounds like the "Magic EQ" in CamelPhat3 (which is awesome), but just crunchier. I don't think this one stays in my toolbox. But it's free shit, didn't hurt to try.

*edit:* Jesu Cristo this thing eats my CPU (Ryzen 2700). Ok, Ableton's new CPU reporting is wonky, but still:

One track, just audio in: 2%, with CamelPhat3 2-3%, with this thing 30-34%. With this sort of performance there's no way I'm going to even consider using this. Looking at Performance Monitor it looks like it's using almost half of a single core, that's terrible for what it does. Ok, not exactly a scientific investigation but still...

    ...

    But going off-topic rant mode:

FOR THE LOVE OF GODDESS STOP CALLING IT AI!

The thing with "AI" is that is neither "artificial" nor "intelligent". As good as Machine Learning using Neural Networks can be, there's nothing smart about it. These are only as good as the people feeding shit into it, it's not some magic thing. It won't do things for you, it just mimics what the creators trained it with.

Probably for publicity/goodwill, true. Because I can't see this selling at $149 which absolutely bonkers to me.

True. Reminds me of Soundspot and AIR with their so called cheap sale prices. However, in this case it seems to be a new plug-in so I'm curious why they didn't go for an introduction discount first. Especially when they will sell it for $149 later on.

I tried it on some sources and found it pretty useful. Like any other saturation plugin it doesn't fit to all sources and you can overdo it easily.
Sadly, it doesn't have an OS option, which is mandatory for saturation pluggies, IMHO.
Main drawback, it's CPU-hungry as hell and needs as much as 21 dynamic bands of TDR Nova.

My arse has AI. Sometimes It farts completely unexpectedly, on its own.

Still, since it's free, I'm going to test this thing in a VM and hear and see [VST analyzer] what it sounds like. Maybe it doesn't sound like arse... :)

When the limited time has expired on the 18th you should check the website to see if they have changed it.

Digital saturators usually do more harm than good since the nature od digital harmonic distortion is on the harsh, muddy and peaky side.
If you ever recorded heavy distorted electric guitars ( metal, hard rock) in 44khz then you know what i mean.
I doubt we are anywhere near in ITB to simulating accurate analog like harmonic distortion, not going to happen any time soon.

I totally disagree. I'm using them in the mixing and mastering stage as a plugin and as long as you know what you're doing, I find them pretty useful.

Whether or not they sound like analog saturation is a completely different story.

And in which way added harmonics can make a sound more muddy is a mystery to me.

There is no mistery with plugin doctor and good ears ;)
This is not really about opinon as some things are facts, boundaries of physics in a digital environment.
Record distorted guitars to tape and transfer them to your daw and then just record the guitar with a sim amp in 44khz.
After you are done go with a stock EQ sweeping from 2-5k or more and you will know why many modern rock and heavy metal guitarists still record guitars to tape and then bounce to daw.
