@ArticStorm There are a few .BINs that have been posted on the sister site for the Roland Cloud JV-1080. You can use them with the XV-5080 too with a simple modification.

Open the .BIN files in any text editor like Notepad++. At the beginning of the file, you'll see the following text:
PG-JV1080
Simply change it to this:
PG-XV5080
Now you can load these banks in the XV-5080 plug-in! Note that this trick does not work with the hardware .BINs because they actually need to be converted first to the Cloud .BIN format using the Python Blue converter.

 

Thank you for this. I'll make a note of the trick. It is definately a useful one. Will try that out. But XV-5080 plugin includes all sounds from JV-1080 plugin anyway. What I'm trying to achieve is to get hardware XP-50/JV-1080 custom sounds (there are fantastic ones and I have a collection of over 2000) into the softsynths. It is quite odd why Roland does not let users add their own custom sounds from hardware into the software plugin versions.

 

Actually, the trick that I mentioned is more useful for getting the full collection of XV patches on any of the SRX plug-ins. I'll be making a post with a few more things I've learned about these plug-ins soon.

And it's great that you have this collection, because I've not been very successful at finding many hardware patches. Most of the stuff I found leads to dead links only. It'd be great if you could share them at some point.
I haven't tried it myself, but I've seen people say that the Python Blue converter has many problems. The only way that remains is for an actual hardware owner to load these patches and copy their settings. Talk about Roland and their frustrating software implementations. Why isn't there support for MIDI program change?

 

I couldn't agree more. I have those patches because I still hold onto my hardware XP-50 (JV1080 with keyboard, sequencer and floppy disk drive) and my gorgeous JD-800. I have put all sounds at the time in a library and they lie there as syx.files. If we can find a way to convert syx into bin we'll have over 2000 unique JV sounds. I'm sending you the syx versions of some of the patches alonside with my findings of via P.M. And am happy to contribute to your work and topic at any time. Just let me know.

 

I'd be also interested in getting these, can you post them or PM me? Like I said, I've got a hardware 5080 that also reads 1080 sounds.
