Could be even better! I use it as a MB gate now but I miss some features like hysteresis and hold. The attack on Pro-MB also seems to be too slow in expansion/gate mode, even when lookahead is set to maximum. It dulls the transients a tiny bit, almost inaudible when listening to a source by itself, in the context of a mix however it is audible. In compress mode the attack is instant when using just a tiny amount of lookahead so I don't get why there is a difference in expand mode :dunno:

Their "Coming Soon - Saturn 2" took too long to be called soon.
Edit: Not this time, Timeless 3 released :disco:

me too, I forgot the last time using these fancy delays, the stock ones (echo, grain delay, filtered delay etc) from Live are enough and CPU friendly.

Downward expansion. So, use expansion section, range below 0dB. Threshold, ratio, lookahead, attack, release...oversampling for reduction using more accurate high-freq curves,it uses shapes with more analog-like highs and ultrahighs, less depending on nyquist area range.

Demoed it a bit, liked it.

It will definitely not replace Valhalla Delay for me. This is, in my opinion, closer to creative delays like UVI Relayer or Blue Cat Late Replies. Of course having the usual FabFilter ergonomic layout makes it, in my opinion, the better choice between the three. The taps section is the best design of its kind I've encountered so far (gotta admit, I never use Valhalla as tap delay, it's the one setting where the interface fails imo).

The modulation options take it to a whole another level of course. Have not dived in deep yet.

God, this review sounds like I was raped by a valium manufacturing plant. Sorry.

Yeah, I love Fabfilter's other plug-ins, but if I need something more than the stock Ableton delays, Echoboy is generally my go-to -- though I like some of the old hardware delay emulations -- Pulsar Echorec is a big favourite, and the Audiority stuff -- Echoes T7E and PlexiTape. Valhalla is a fantastic delay as well. Really powerful with a shedload of usable algorhthms. But 90% of the time, I'm using the stock Ableton delays.

The drive knob made me wish FF had some shared universe host thingy like Melda's MXXX. Imagine, with a few clicks, you an route the drive knob to Saturn 2, the dynamics knob to Pro-C2 or Pro-MB, the diffusion knob to Pro-R..

People have been getting hard-ons for a FF DAW for years, but a plugin ecosystem like that would even be better IMO.

It uses less cpu than abletons echo combined with eq8, max 4 life modulator etc. Not every stock plugin is cpu friendly. Timeless 3 is great value for ableton users, but bitwig users can replicate this in 5 mins.

You can easily replicate the modulations indeed, but you'll have a much harder time replicating the taps section.

^ Same ... I'm assuming you're also an owner of FabFilter Total Bundle, then? :)

    FabFilter Timeless 3 - Personal Upgrade Offer.png

    Nice! :)
How did you manage to swing a whopping 83% discount (down from $129 to $22?) Is that excluding 'sales tax/VAT' or did you also have an additional discount voucher?

I agree with a lot of what you stated. I for sure will still be using Valhalla Delay (it's just so immediate and effective). But I can see different scenarios where I will be use both these Fabfilter and Valhalla Delay plugins.

Timeless 3 seems the more 'deep dive' surgical approach, whereas Valhalla Delay just 'sounds great' out the gate and is extremely fast and easy to dial in the majority of delay requirements.

Great update from FabFilter, either way though.

I wonder what Fab will have next for us? Another plugin update, or something brand new?

    Anyone have any guesses?...

    A sort of custom bundle.
Micro and One are the only FF stuff I haven't bought and I'll never do.
