I think most people misuse the term "commercial," thinking of it as being on a major label and selling a shit-ton of albums. In truth, "commercial," as a slight, is best described as an artist or group following the moves of the mainstream, pop culture, or corporate directions instead of creating exactly what they want, despite whether or not it's commercially "viable." Basically, we're supposed to be the innovators; we're the ones who are supposed to be making the trends and setting the rules, not the other way around.
A lot of this is tackled in that new FX mini-series, Hip Hop Undercover. Highly recommended for anyone who's as frustrated as I am with the continued trend of the public face of Hip Hop being heisted by asshats with no real investment in, or respect for, the culture. :keys:

-when is hip hop going to leave these clowns in the past?
-The day when hip hop is leaving mental retardation in the past. The day that being with golden chains and smoking joints wearing branded clothes are not the things that attract new generations. And, of course, the day that they could construct something brand new, not using same
old samples once and again, with a couple of chords (of course, sampled, aswell), just to talk along over those loops "complaining" about life or saying how cool is to be "millionaire" and have girls a lot... Buff... it's soooo disgusting and boooooring... try something new, you had 40 years to try anything else... c'mon!
    Simply as that.

Somebody said way up there: "it's just business". And, of course, braindead are still among us...

Children, take this advise: "evolve" to something more intrincated, it's not that difficult! And you'll be grateful for it.

I would try to hire them to do my birthday party but I know damn well it's just going to be John Wayne Gacy with a red balloon again.

Care-free, carelessness, and irresponsible spending is a HUGE market for the corporate world, which is why these kind of rappers get endorsements. It's just the inevitable devolution back to Babylonian times.

That might be a step up with lots of the flotsam clogging the musical artery these days.

Musically, your comment is *fairly accurate--there's a lot of solid stuff being put out if you just dig around for it--but it still doesn't change the fact that the *actual musicians, beatmakers, producers, and rappers that are outside the spotlight of what is now considered Hip Hop, are the people who should be profiting off of Hip Hop. You can justify and the rise of the studio/corporate-bred rapper all you want, but at the end of the day, these people are walking into a house that's not theirs, raping the wardrobe, walking and talking like they own the place, and then raiding the fridge... and then they act like you're the asshole for calling them out?
Getting obligatory scraps thrown to you when you were the one who cooked the ghatdam meal is unacceptable. :wtf:

They all secretly like men. Hence the feminine clothes they wear, and rainbow hair color.

Well hip hop quickly was swarmed by money-grabbers, like all are.
    Respect? Why respect?
Tell me, what was there / is there to respect, and to what degree(s)?

    And to the original question...
They will not be left behind... They ARE hip hop now.

There's no fucking secret, if you've seen any videos of rappers talking about it then you will know they openly say you have to get popped in the butt by some rapping diddler to have success in music. They literally say that.

They are all whiny girly men who get tatted up to cover up getting popped in the butt as a way of trying to desperately grab onto whatever masculinity they pretend to have left so others will see them as hard.

But they are all rapping limp wristed fags who pretend they aren't so if you come at me for hate for fags then know it's not fags i hate it's guys pretending they are heterosexuals who get popped in the butt but then turn around and pop some other girl that I could hit and get their gay STD's as a straight male.

In reality I could thank a fag for taking himself out of the competition for chicks and taking another guy with him. So yeah fuck em all and their innability to flex their asshole shut so shit can hopefully stop falling out of their ass like Niagra falls then trying to cover it up like I can't smell it.

I grew up to rap and I generally listen to anything that sounds great to me. I don't really care too much about what the person looks like but I care about if it sounds great or if I can relate or both. Hell, if it inspires me to make beats too. I think the logical thing to always do is simply control what you listen to personally.

Worrying about the state of music can be frustrating and a waste of time you could spend being creative. I honestly can relate but thinking about this is a waste of energy.

Make the music you want to hear.

Now I will say this. I will not shame anyone for being gay. For living a fake life yes but not for being gay as sexuality can be a complex journey for some.

Also, these days the women have just as much stds as the guys tbh. But back to the topic yes these dudes whole persona is fake.

But really, this is what every discussion/moaning about music should end with. You just put it out really simple and accurately.

Don't waste your energy with the stuff you don't like, it's really that simple.

    Just repeat this:

    Thank you @Michael Myers !

Of course I am. Some people in the underground still have respect for themselves so they would not stoop this low.
