Hi, Im in the market for a midi control surface, for a Studio One DAW, I've got it down to two controllers 1 Presonus Faderpory v2 2 Behringer X-Touch One Can anyone with experience of these units offer me the pro's and cons of them and any recomendations for an alternative. I mainly want to use it for transport controls and mixing controls.TIA Last edited: May 3, 2021
I’ve got the x touch one for transport controls it works great with logic x . It’s able to navigate the daw easily without needed to touch the mouse . I had a problem with the motorized fader not responding to channel changes but sent it into behringer for repair and got it back a week later with it fixed . . My only complaint with it is it doesn’t have a on off switch . Other than that it’s great . But a side note I am selling it soon to upgrade to the big x touch to have more control over plugins and mixer changes . It’s expandable as well with the xtouch expander to give me mixer channels . If I had to buy again I’d just go for the full version . But the xtouch one can navigate the mixer at a push of a button to any channel . A good device for the money
PreSonus - Faderport v2: Per - very quiet and precise motorized fader - perfect integration with Studio One - everything is built in high quality and sturdy Contra - no cons. The revised fader port from Presonus is completely convincing. Stable materials were processed well and precisely. The built-in motorized fader offers not only precision, but also an extremely low noise level, even with fast movements. Overall, everything feels very valuable and robust. In addition, there is the perfect hardware integration, because the interface offers an additional 24 buttons and a 360 ° rotary controller for controlling most of the relevant functions of Studio One. Not only does this speed up the workflow significantly, it also makes the production of music feel much more natural and intuitive. Even a full version of Studio One Artist is included, so you have to go looking for things that don't fit with the fader port. That's why there are also full marks! Last edited: May 2, 2021
It has no effect. Bonedo.de FaderPort (v2) review “The most important thing: The touch-sensitive motor fader is smooth and, above all, extremely quiet.” Last edited: May 4, 2021
For a non-motorized controller, look at the Nektar P1. With 49 or 61 keyboard, P4 & P6. Fully assignable with pre-made DAW layouts as well.
Quadcore64, first choice was the Nektar P1, but the physical size was just too large for my desk, but thanks for trying, I'm leaning on the presonus side at the moment, unless snyone can disuade me.
Might I suggest a laptop/peripheral stand with enough clearance for computer/music keyboard. Dual Review: PreSonus FaderPort and ioStation 24c https://everythingrecording.com/review-presonus-faderport-iostation24c/ PreSonus ioStation 24c minus - Push potentiometer does not look very high quality - Phantom power can only be switched on for both channels at the same time - Need to update everything for a slick controller result. The FaderPort integration into StudioOne is unmatched. Yet is the latest firmware buggy, the factory default works more reliable. Faders do not move silent, they just jump in small steps and produce noise.
justmeasured my desk and with a slight adjustment the Nektar would fit. So pros and cons for the nektar P1 please
The test is from 2016 (Bonedo / German). Nectar P1 - Pro: comprehensive mixer and transport control, - extensive control over instruments and effects, - parameter display on the color display, easy installation, Nectar P1 - Contra: display angle not adjustable, - partly confusing menu navigation, – Setup a bit technical and fiddly, – Instructions could be clearer The menu navigation takes getting used to. Because the submenus of software instruments are not always structured logically. There is an exit button in some areas, but not in others. Then you can only get out of the menu by switching the modes. If you do not use this emergency exit, it can happen that the menu rotary control changes the current patch instead of leading to the LFO section of a sound generator. I think you should give the company a chance, almost certainly, they will have solved many of the disadvantages by now. https://nektartech.com/studio-one-panorama-p1-p4-p6-daw-integration/ Last edited: May 3, 2021
cons: no high resolution fader's. It is just a MIDI controller with 128 steps vs 1024 no motor fader pro: cheaper
So you use these as recording and you get physical fader noise when used outside the control room, or do you mean controller data jitter? I mean surely keyboards or midi pads or midi keyboards would cause more of this, right?
It is just the noise of the moving fader, it doent affect the audio. But to get around this we can just add a gain plugin to a channel and automate this, and not the fader itself, that way we can just close thge plugin to leave thge focus, result no moving fader https://sendvid.com/irhobl52 I suggest, if possible, to try just both. Con: No recent hardware update (may not be a real concern). Pros: No motorized faders that could fail and be hard to replace as well over time. Truly universal controller. Fairly priced MSRP $339.00 US (can be found for $280 to $300) Rugged construction.
Agree with @mrichi. It also come with their Nektar VSTi if you are into that kind of software. It is heavy on system resources in the current release.
I've had the Faderport 16 for about a month now and I absolutely love it. Especially the new plugin control implementation, the mapping process is super simple and of course it works great with Studio One. I also bought the Nektar Aura about a month ago, and while I can say for sure that it is great hardware, their support and documentation for it is pathetic. There are so many aspects of it that just aren't covered anywhere, and the Nektarine software is fiddly, clunky, and non-intuitive in my opinion. I don't know how much that applies to their other hardware products, but just be advised. With the Faderport you get a TON of documentation and support.

Thanks guys for all your advice, I settled for the faderport, and it seems to fulfill my requirements, thanks once again.
