Why Should Non-Technical People Care About Free Software?

    Availability and longevity. Sure you don't have to care that most of the web runs on OSS, but the web is all the better for it.

    Then you have something like Surge which was commercial, then the author stopped updating it, but open sourced it. Now we have a way better Surge that also leverages other pieces of open source code.

    And even if you're not a programmer you can contribute bug reports which you can follow since the bug trackers are public.

    Free software and open source is not the same also free software usually comes with no official technical support so you need to use the community or the forums doesn't mean paid is for the not so tech savvy but usually is like that and same goes for the other it boils down to the money one is community driven other is paid for maintaining and support
