and yeah, that one ReKon gui is way too complicated. The Mystery Island editor is a much better place to work from, at least from an inspiration standpoint, especially since many of the synths on this list were already done by them.

If someone likes that one so much, they can always buy it and link it to the emulator.

 

Well, I do personally own the Waldorf MicroQ, Novation Supernova I, and Nord Lead 2 editors. Of these, the Supernova I skin would be the most desirable since the Q Rom is of the synth in question and not the MicroQ, and the NL2 would take a lot more time than an NL3 (which doesn't have a skin for it at the moment anyway) as you said before. I wouldn't mind sending the Supernova I editor to the cause when the time is appropriate.

 

Not needed. Since the emulator can take midi input/output, buying some 3rd party VST controller and using it would be on the end user.

Regarding Nord, I don't think anyone is working on those at this moment nor it's a priority right now, but if you know anyone interested in joining development, feel free to send them the Discord / Github links.

 

I think there are few good plugin GUI maker on Patreon, if anyone know how to get in touch with them to collaborate on the project. Pabilinimax or something, those he has to improve is "watermark" or "signature" because he likes to add it to the GUI. Kinda bummer.

I like the Rekon Audio GUI, though some clear labeling would be appreciated. Like this, but bigger of course because more knobs.

I'm guessing you meant the Nova and not the Nord, but no worries! I was thinking someone could pull the skin from the editor itself and maybe change a few things around to make it more suitable for the project. Even if one of the designers wanted to build something from scratch, it's great inspiration since it was made to work totally in tandem with the hardware.

 

The Hypersaw was only added in the TI series and not the previous ones, so it wouldn't be possible since these are ROM's that are identical to the source synth. It's not like a custom synth like Viper made from the ground-up where bits and pieces of other synths can be thrown in and adjusted to the developer's liking.

It's totally fine in my book because the ROMs give a much more 'authentic' experience that's never been available to date. In many ways, that's much more desirable than a custom synth. Not to mention the amount of time cut down in that only the emulator needs to be made and it's a doorway to many synths. Think about how much progress has been made just this past month alone. Viper or any other custom synth takes years and years to put together from the ground-up, so it's a give-and-take.

You can just use that exact editor if you like it that much. It's compatible.

Been watching this thread for a minute and I'm really excited to try out a bunch of synths I wasn't ever able to afford, especially the Virus TI (whenever whoever gets around to it).

That being said, sound design isn't really my forte and tbh something I find it to be quite boring most of the time. I was curious as to whether or not people would be able to load sound banks and presets from the original synths.

I expect this kind of emulation can load the original hardware presets, like the old DiscoDSP Discovery Pro (Nord Lead 2) that still sound soo good to me.
Also the Arturia DX7 and even the Dexed can load the DX7 sysex. That somehow had 30000 public presets shared on sister site one time.

Thats for the Ti, we are working on the C, so that wont load yet unfortunatley. The Ti is on our list so it will come at some point

 

While I'm not personally crazy for it, that sequencer.de website says the Korg Oaysis was running on DSP 563 chips? in fairness, it could be added to the list

The Korg OASYS actually has an x86 system inside it. It was powered by a 2.8GHz Intel Pentium 4 processor and ran a custom version of Linux.

The vision with the OASYS was to create a highly expandable and powerful system which was limited only by its PC-like hardware. As stated above, it may have used the DSP 563 chips for the additional tasks, but all of the synthesis was done by the Pentium 4 itself. The same concept powers the current Kronos as well.

The OASYS did have all of Korg's PCM sample library, along with its 6 other sound engines which include sample libraries and modelled synths.

 

I checked it out and it's wild! it looks like a mini-computer with a big touch-screen. I mean, there have been synths with big screens around the same era like the Yamaha Tyros, Roland-V-Synth, or Korg's own older Triton series, but dang! Linux? pentium processor? haha, was Korg trying to sell a synth or a computer?

But I checked out some videos and it's got some solid workstation-esque sounds. I'm personally good when it comes to vintage workstation stuff with all the Roland Cloud synths as well as Korg's own Legacy Collection if I want something of the era. It sounds like it's got some great ambient sounds, but I'd probably reach for the new JD800 Zencore instrument if I want something that really nails those or hold off for a more authentic JD990 or V-Synth plugin. Given all that which was used to power the dang thing, it's probably safe that it's not possible without a lot of dedicated work that goes beyond this project haha, but I won't knock anyone who might be a fan. Can never really be enough 90s/2k era stuff
