I understand your point of view, but this does not represent music produced with or without electronic technology.
We have the choice to listen or not to the music, there are good productions, good melodic lines or sung, not in the video proposed.....
a part of the youth lacks a bit of musical culture, it's up to us, the elders, to make them discover it, without saying that it was better or not, the 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s made us discover exceptional musicians and music, it's up to us to share it, besides, we can hear immediately when someone has a culture.....
by nature I remain open to the proposed music, of course the access to the production is amplified nowadays, in the mass there is always some good music with soul!

Every generation has some needs and obsessions. Previous generations had needs, and new generations have other needs. The needs of previous generations were progress, innovation, action, war, ... and they reflected these needs in their music.

The needs of the new generation are often summed up in the rapid reach of sex and money. The genres and formats created by previous generations are not much usable to express the needs of the new generation. The music of the past is mostly profound and has complex musical materials, but new music is often simple and devoid of any profound thinking.

The reason for this is not so hard. Because getting to sex and money quickly doesn't require complicated thinking. In order to get there quickly, you have to do illegal and unusual things. In fact, the new generation does not want music for music, but it considers music as a means of achieving sex and money.

Social networks and the display of luxurious lives are some reasons for new generations' tendencies towards fast sex and money. Of course, these needs existed in the past, but along with these needs, the previous generations had other demands that have been well represented in their movies, music and other media, but the new generation feels no need other than sex and money.

I also personally don't listen to the charts religiously but this forum is just boring on the subject tbh. just constant biassed opinions and it probably wouldn't matter what the songs were in the last year, the same things would be being written on this post.

    This.
The OP's a known troll here who hasn't anything more in his life than provoking discussion between the users here.
Been banned lot of times and he always comes back with a different nick/account. I'm surprised I didn't noticed before this time. Each time he's banned lowers his tone to avoid mod detection, but eventually will be banned again.

This thread is for rooting out why we have arrived here, as well as for better understanding the new generation and how they view music.

Until these reasons are properly recognized and solutions are not found, the current trends will continue and we will see more worrying situations every year.

They all sound like 2 people made them [heh, actually that might be true], and purely for the purpose of selling them. Devoid of any feelings and meaning. God forbid some diversity or experimental stuff. Just play safe and convey to the lowest common denominator with an average IQ of 60.

Well, my wife and I had a good laugh at least. Pop is shittier than ever.

I don't get this part. Are you trying to say all pop sounds the same "product"?

  9. To get this part you needed to get the lengthy part that preceded it.

Oh, that popular YT channel is also a good one to check on this. Rick Beato for me and many people is not the best teacher but his rants or opposite are usually good.
So I recommend these. He does one every once in while:

I put the 1st and 3rd ones. There's a second one probably banned by the stupid copyright thing when he actually likes that top ten. A pity..

Yes, I read that part about new genres of music and as a business following the it or the "trends" as always but then I don't get this part

It doesn't make sense. Are you trying to say pop is all the same "product"?

  13. I will answer with the example that I had supplied in relation to Max Martin. In the first two decades he has written and produced for the following artists:

    Britney Spears
    Backstreet Boys
    Pink
    Katy Perry
    Kelly Clarkson
    Avril Lavigne
    NSYNC
    Kesha
    Usher
    Nick Minaj
    Justin Bieber
    Maroon 5
    Taylor Swift
    Christina Aguilera
    Carl Rae Jepsen
    Shakira
    Arianna Grande
    Demi Lovato
    Ellie Goulding
    The Weeknd
    Justin Timberlake

When I provided an overview of last centuries popular music, major artists were highly diverse and comprised unique songwriters, varied producers and artists who developed personas of their own volition. Anybody of any age can form a visual or aural mental picture of Mick Jagger, Freddie Mercury, Michael Jackson, Madonna, David Bowie or Elton John. This small selection spanned half a century. The long list represents 20 years.
So tell me; are you saying that the development of an artist is the same now as it has ever been?
I am saying it is fundamentally different. I don't have the time to delve that deeply into the subject to do it justice.
I am not making an objective judgement. I am making a personal observation. And that observation is that the extremely talented Max Martin has done something that I don't think has ever been done before.
It is this element of "the business" to which I allude.

You could say the same thing about Motown.
I don't think even in the Max Martin list they sound the same. Justin Beiber, Justin Timberlake, or the Weeknd all sound different to me. And anybody of any age can form a visual or aural mental picture of them as well.
But he also isn't involved in every song they put out.
The main thing they have in common is a good recorded vocal, mixing and mastering.
If you had listened to the op video it was pretty diverse, from mainstream pop to rap, slap house, even a few random things in there.

Max Martin does have a pop list though.

  17. I don't disagree with you. I admit I love the recording, mixing and mastering on a lot of todays material and often wonder why so many plugins want to give you that 70's vibe. I have loads of 70's vinyl recorded in those "legendary" studios recorded with massive budgets and they don't come close to today's recordings. But I wouldn't expect them to. Totally different thing going on back then.

I could be with him on artistic analysis, but there is an incongruence: He (maybe in his 50s) is NOT the target of the songs.
This gentleman clearly stated: he goes once a month on spotify to be up to date on the chart. I’m sure he never buy their music or click on a video of these artists or follow their insta/fbook/twit chan, ever

In business, focusing on the target is everything. Have you ever gone shopping absorbents for your girlfriend? I know how you felt: totally lost in front of a wall of products you know absolutely nothing about. This is because they are not meant to get your attention, you have no idea of the different features they have, it is a concept you will never be interested in.

I’d like to watch the same top 50 spotify song review from a 16yo musician, just to understand the different feeling

That's a bit of a narrow view there. You were born into an era were both options were available and still available now.

And Justin don't dress like that all the time.

    Not this?

Don't forget a lot of that was the pop music of that time.
