I cannot believe I found out about this section only now.. I usually use Reddit for my synth recipes but I honestly never get much help.

I am getting kind of obsessed with this 'water' lead synth sound (off the top of my head I can't find a better term to describe it). You can hear it at 0:30 in this song:

It's almost plucked but not quite.. My hope is that it's a preset someone can easily point me to ;)

    Thanks!

Have a look at the XOXOS VST synths.
He makes a lot of nature-based sound generators.

    NI Straylight. Try preset Ebow.

Thank you!! I own a copy of Straylight but never heard of XOXOS, I am definitely going to check both out. I cannot believe I missed - once again - to recognize at least something similar in some of the libraries I have.. it's not the first time this happens to me: every time I get too focused on a sound and start re-creating it (and I am not that bad at using synths, I learnt a lot in the past year) I save something and then the next day it sounds completely off.. sometimes even the smallest of details can make a patch sound so far from its intended tone.. and I also think that hearing sounds in context does not help as one must be good at "isolating" the rest and trying to get the real feel for that one sound alone.

Anyway, super excited that I had some pointers, you folks rule!

Are you referring to the pluck sound?

Yes I would not totally define it as pluck but it's that around (for example) at 0:30 playing those four notes and then also appears in other parts.

I think I am onto something by using resonance more than I was before.. then EQ and reverb. But as usual any hint is appreciated!

Yeah, it's a simple pluck drowned in reverb. Assign an envelope to a lowpass filter and set the decay and range to a suitable value. Then run it through a reverb (in seriel or parallel).

As I know if you have an Omnisphere, you can design almost any sound you want. And if you haven't try Xfer Serum or Harmor Flstudio plugin. And I must mention also Reason has a very good synths plugin you must check it as well. Good luck.

Thanks folks! You are absolutely right, reverb was more the key than the sound itself. I did something simple and just wrote the guy to ask him XD he replied instantly saying he checked the session and it was a Zebra patch he tweaked but the key to it was more with the envelopes and reverb modulation than anything else.

Sometimes we forget the simplest solutions might be the most effective (also like: just write the author and ask! No harm in that :)). My social anxiety did not win for once.

    Solved!
