MU rates for recording sessions. Sometimes for live too. Some gigs pay a weekly retainer too. Which was enough to live on.

Some royalties still. Not as good as when released though.

SAiNT (A man from St. petersberg i guess) rarely posts.
Olymoon (An olympian) is late to remove useless comments.
The PiRAT (The real captain Jack Sparrow) is irresponsible because it takes 3 - 7 days to upload removed files.

I don't know much about NoAvenger (may be royal bengal tiger), since he's mod i don't wanna get banned and talk about other staffs and members because i once got negative rating and warning from Olymoon for being funny...

PiRAT is the staff member you are speaking about. I agree that he is a really hard working member, and what he does is fundamental for AZ.

Seems like everyone in the business is barely making a living... but why do you say it was never an option for you?

 

I have friends who got lucky with deals, but when the standard fee dropped to less than half a mill ater 2000, all they managed to do was secure a mortgage and then scrape by for the next 10 years of the deal, and not legally be able to work with anybody else.
Yet I also know people that never have to work again due to their initial success, and of being sensible with it.
I was happy at my lower tier as session musician. Of course we're always expendable, but I needed freedom in my life more than I wanted more money and more responsibility!
And with writing, often it was actually better for me to sell the song, or my percentage of it, and then fuck off!
Yet also sometimes it turned out it would have been better not to! But hey.
The people I know who have a constant income in their position work for publishers and licensing companies.

I hovered over 'Agree' because gigs make the most, and then merch at gigs!
"Ghost" "producing" haha, or simply writing songs for people, can be lucrative if it's for a top artist.
And I totally disagree with "soundpacks and soundsets". Laughable.

I have made the most money, and the most consistent money, from gigging nationally most nights of the week.
And that's even after having had my songs in the top 20.

 

actualy the trick is having a team or one thee these dedicated company's behind you which monetize everything , stream ad's,beeing on all platforms , doing merch ,art stuff ,keep your fans hooked by feeding them often,having sponsors...

there are a lot of total niche genre artists how know to use www and can live pretty good from that but at statr you must do all alone that means to be focused and workaholic 24/7 for years like when you get into self-indulgement and act accordingly .
the music is just one part when you want to live from it .

or look to german rappers they make most money thru www clicks and merch and other parrallel stuff like sisha tobacco with their brand and such shit

 

Yes PiRAT is defiantly a hard worker from what I have seen.

I know back in my younger days when I helped run a bbs it was a lot of work.
So if you think that it is easy you are fooling your self.
