Even if this is live, I can't see any amps/cabinets in this room. Means, they're in another room and their signal is fed back over the in-ear monitoring system.
The only one who's making noise, besides the vocalists, is the drummer and he's sitting behind some acoustic panels.

Because something that works in one recording doesn't necessarily work in another.

Yes and where is it??? The same reason you don't record in the bath.

Err, you can have some great short reverb in a bath. Depends on the source and the goal - and the bath, ofc.
I don't recall exactly, but I think the vocalist of either Dream Theater or Queensrÿche once mentioned that he made his recordings in his bathroom.

One might want the sound of a great room informing the recording. As well, bleed from other instruments can make a record (after great material and a fine performance) Microphone choices and placement are vital.

This isn't you friend's garage, it says Abbey Road in the video title as many others have already pointed out. It is a world class treated studio with carefully planned out acoustics, and even then the singers are on cardioid directional dynamic mics facing away from each other and you can still hear the gate working.

I wouldn't call it a great recording or even great technique from Sam Smith, but it has a live charm that is often missing from over-processed works. It does sound good.

  12. Also of note he's using a Shure SM7B, a dynamic mic used mostly for its application in broadcasting where it doesn't pick up extraneous noise.

Some have recorded vocals over jail phone, been put out without any hassle. But pussies will still be gaped pussies.

What's the difference between a Shure 57 and a 58? Fucking beach air & sand is what.

Dudes eating that SM7B like it’s his cuck boyfriend lol....
Yes vocal iso rooms are necessary. Always? No, just listen to 60s Motown... When then? When you need the isolation. Why? Because bleed... But this recording sounds okayish.

i was going to mention this, but glad you brought it up. no way they pull this off with high-end large-diaphragm condenser mics that pick up every little nuance.

I know it seems like forever ago, but as some of the older forum members may remember before the pandemic people would actually leave their homes and play live music in restaurants, clubs, theaters and even stadiums.

They would have these huge PA and stage monitor systems, live guitar amps, rock drummers, screaming audiences and ... and NO VOCAL BOOTHS!
