Some of the presets in portal seem to have a hard pan to the Left or Right channels and I can't find any parameter to change this behaviour. The Pan knob in Portal doesn't change anything for me in these presets. Does anyone know what setting might be causing this or if its a bug?(running the crack on w10 with Ableton 11)

This is a User from AN which says the same:
some of the patches are completely in one ear only, they are not panned, the signal is only in one side

and here:
I noticed 3 Presets from the Stretch & Smear Presets called:
Event Repetition
Particle Reduction
Trembling Time

the Pan is coded hard right and you can do nothing to solve
this......crazy......never had such an issue

Tested in Wavelab10...... the Pan is coded hard right here for the 3 presets!

 

ok, I try preset "Event Repetition" and I can say that PAN knob working!
but if you want send sound only in left (or right) channel, after setting PAN you also need to change delay type (in "effects" section) from "ping pong"to "stereo"

Sorry if you guys think I ask a stupid question, but....

I´ve tested a lot of granular plugs and being completely honest I find Output Portal a bit overrated compaired with other plugins, so....
What exactly do you like about Portal and how do you use it?

E.g: I find a plugin like MgranularMB much more useful and easy to work with.

My bad, "Warning Signals" under Rhythmic outputs to the right channel only.

 

I've tried this, doesn't change anything, It just acts almost as a volume knob.

If a sound is accidentally hard coded to one side, then the pan knob turns to a volume knob, that's correct.

 

Portal(and Thermal) is sort of like Omnisphere in a sense. Yes you can build your own patch, but its designed with the intention of preset browsing and playing with the 3 knobs(X,Y, Mix) so it works out to be a lot quicker and easier to use. I haven't tried MgranularMB but for my use case(I'd rather resample and use Quanta or Granulator II if I want to achieve that sound, which I rarely do honestly), Portal works well enough for me.

wanted to try this plugin for longer now, cant find it on sister site tho...

 

Is it possible some presets aren't oriented around panning & something is disabling it on certain presets?

I've used very little Portal so I don't actually remember having this issue, though I could just have been oblivious to it.

 

Ok... I dont use Omnisphere but I guess you mean: pick your choice in a rompler??

Seems like that's the issue. Certain presets just have a hard coded mono output I guess. But why not have it play in both channels? no clue. Maybe its a bug that got fixed in a later release? I've resorted feeding the right signal to both channels using a utility and then applying a chorus/stereo-izer plugin cause I like the preset a lot XD

Yup pretty much. It's a fully adjustable plugin but its designed to be used as a rompler first(unlike what I've heard of Nexus)

Not as far as I know, but in all fairness, I'm still using the cracked plugin.
