Irrespective of EDM style...can you name some go to bass synth presets you use often?

I personally try my best to not rely on presets. But I can tell you which synths I usually use.
Twin 2 for warm subs, Serum and/or Vital (duh) for neurofunkery, Aparillo for drones and since recently Generate for more weird and less warm subs with some interesting organic modulations.
I also wanna get my hands on Phaseplant sometime. One day I'll do this.

Sometimes I poke around a few presets to get some inspiration, but I usually know the sound I am looking for and dial it in from a blank slate (init, default, etc).

If you only use presets, you never really learn how a synth works. Such a waste

as far as i know samsom from AS; he's not really into making presets, yet. He just wants to make music you know. The whole music-thing is still a mystery to a extend for our member asking. So with that said,

presets are there to be used. So use them.
no need to reinvent the wheel _everytime_

for typical EDM sounds i would try one of these synths
sylenth1
spire
ana2

and go thru the preset banks it comes with per default. They should have EDM pretty good covered in most departments of what sounds you want to use to create some edmbanger ;)

make favorites of the sounds you like, so you can find/use them again and again.

Ones you have gained some more confidence in synths, you could reverse engeineer some of your favorite sounds, and figure out how the sounds is made. In alot of music of the sounds a very simple at the end of the day.

 

Applied Acoustics String Studio has some good bass.

 

Throught my music production journey, one of the most important things i have ever learnt was to create your own bass sound makes everything easier.

I mean after drilling, practicing and training, creating your own bass sound is much easier than electing and picking the right sound from various soundbanks.

Being creative is totally based on how you navigate and get the result quickly. I don't give a damn how big you have a studio or you have numerous of soundbanks.

Have you tried 'Ace Serum Presets' by Mystic Alankar? I found them to be really versatile for various genres of pop and EDM. Especially love the plucks and bass presets. Dropping a link to part 1 here in case you wanna check it out. Good day!

Coming from an industrial side of things, I tend to load up something like EZBass by Toontrack, with the clean metal di, then make it my own with something like Output Thermal. I don't tend to go to presets. That, or find something with a really nice sub, like Serum, or one that I've been using lately is SoftTube Monoment Bass, and doing the same. I never rely upon everything that's built inside of one VST to get the sound that I'm after.

I treat our guitars like synths, and synths like guitars. And I treat bass in the same way.

But for out-of-the box presets, Monument Bass for me, Avenger is a runner up. Failing that, Massive, or Massive X. I know that Massive X isn't quite as hands on as Massive, but if you know what you're doing, and how to route things properly, you can get some really dirty sounds out of it. But if you're looking for some kind of ARP, I'd recommend running the sound through a 3rd party plug like Xfer Cthulhu.

It really does depend upon what you're used to using, and how you use it.

Serum can be fucking tight, but for me it doesn't have the same bite as other soft-synths. I'm forever layering. Possibly due to what I create, or maybe I'm just not using it properly.

I've taken to making a patch in Monument Bass, running that through an FX channel with a Neural DSP cab on, then slapping on Infected Mushroom's Gatekeeper. I work in very weird ways.

Not saying that it's going to work for you, but it's damn fun to experiment. And that's part of journey.

If you haven't already, check Sugar Bytes' YouYube channel. They have a short series of videos about Aparillo and how it works. Aside of the manual, you won't find a better starting point.
Also look up Andrew Huang's video about FM synthesis. That should cover up the basics.

 

The Korg MS-20 doesn't have any presets!

 

If you like any particular sound you have to write it down on a chart so that you can reproduce it later. How cool is that
