    Hi there,

For a school a project I have to compose some stuff for a movie. Now I know DAW's like logic have this feature where you can import video into your project and sync it with the audio right away. But I was wondering if there are any other ways to sync audio with video. (I'm using Ableton) I originally planned on writing some music and then sync it up in iMovie or something. But I guess there're easier ways to do it.

    Thanks in advance,

I'm not sure what do you mean "syncing" since you want to score, don't you?.
Just watch the show, mark the important points, ask director what she/he wants and get it going.
To make it more "pro" include so called 2pop in front of the FFOA (first frame of action). 2pop is 1kHz 1 frame long beep exactly 2 secs before beginning of the show (if doing video, doing film stock is different). It helps the departments to understand where your sound begins; it might begin with a fade in and nobody would know where the start is :).
    Good Luck

Another tip: be sure to choose the right sample frequency (in Khz) for your project. Usually, sound on video is 48 Khz, where music composers like to use 44.1 khz (cause it is the CD standard)
When combining different samplerates weird stuff can arise, like dropping sync & audible ticks..

Thats a pointless reply (you’re missing a point after the second E.)

Thanks for that tips. I wanted the important parts to be on the first beat, so that when recording guitars for example you could have a metronome playing synced with the video.

Anyway I've figured it out and know how to do it in ableton. I usually work with video material that contains no audio. But what if I get a project where I get video material that does contain audio. For what sample frequency should i go than?

By reading your tips and answers I think you didn't understand what I was trying do :p

As mentioned, standard is 48K. For everything else: http://sourceforge.net/projects/mediainfo/
