No, when it comes to mixing things are never black and white. It's cool to use it as a form of reference but I believe no 2 songs sound the same. I find it easy to treat a mix according to what it requires.

I tend to use Eq Matching when customers ask me to make one product sound similar to a role model. Difficult is when a client brings a track that has nothing to do with a particular role model and, even so, wants to sound similar...

 

one way to use it that I found very interesting is to match takes that were recorded using different mics , another way is to apply it after tape to control how it affects the frequency spectrum

 

You mean to try to sound like someone else? Nope, I try to avoid this as best as I can.

 

no every sounds different you can get away with useing similar settings with compression ( for eaxample useing similar settings for 2 different super saws) but tonalaity wise there different.
