Would put off buying the first generation M1 based Mac. If you really need a Mac, not just a computer, look at the still available Intel based models that fit your needs.

    minimum spec should be:
    1TB SSD
    16GB RAM
    i7 4C/8T

I bought the M1. It’s my first Mac and first time trying Logic Pro. I have used some releases from the sister site without issues even though it’s running through Rosetta. The one good thing is that with my PC a was a plug-in hoarder lol, but if I want to take advantage of the ARM processing I’m using all the built in plugins in logic. It’s helping me cut down on plugins I don’t need/use and I’m focusing more on learning to use what I have. Just my 2 cents

The bundles are usually about 1/10 of retail price when on sale. I got Mercury for $200.

i own a MacBook Pro and a MacMini (Booth on M1) and i can say that the Software i have is Mostly running well, if not better than on my I7 MacBook.... BUT Serum makes trouble ! it crashes if u try to load a Preset.... Studio One, Logic, Reason, Ableton Live, Maschine and Reaper are runnig very well and Fast. Even UVI Falcon 2.x, Rapid, Avenger and Sylenth1 are running very well and Fast. Same goes for VCV Rack and Cherry Audio Voltage Modular !

i hope that helps a bit

we mac users used to call it x32 and x64, not x86 and x64. :)

x32 because it could mean universal binary or PPC-only.

i think you missed the irony in his post.

the fact that you cannot replace the internal SSD and the other thigns he listed are not "fixed" and they will never be.

and he has not yet mentioned that other nasty bug, where some M1 minis tend to write tons of ram swappign stuff to the SSD for an unknown reason.

    ...

the M1 mini and the M1 versions of the new laptops have an awesome + 300% graphics performance compared to the intel machines, and for some applications the CPU will be some 20% - 100% faster.

the fact that the machine requires 11 watts at max performance where the slower intel machines require 75 watts is just impressive.

but if you use your machine on a daily basis and you are not yet sure if you are okay with only 16 gb RAM, only 2 monitors, and a sooner or later broken (and not replaceable) internal drive, you should think twice.

99.9999% of the software works perfectly (and better/faster with M1). Only some very old free vsts from the 2000s might not show up, so it's actually time to do some cleaning in your vst folders :)

Don't listen to the fake news out there.

As far as hardware goes, only Elektron and UAudio still haven't fully upgraded their firmware, because their development teams suck.

Much of the power of m1 depends on the neural network that the soc has, since it is doing things in an advanced way while the main cores do the work we see (so to speak), and this is because the arm architecture does not scale (Since in itself it would consume practically the same as an x86-64, if I'm not mistaken ... and that's what it avoids). Regarding the graphic section, I think that the same situation occurs as in game consoles: the base of the system, the chip, is not the same architecture as the pc and with custom-made and ultra-optimized APIs, you have a performance equal to or greater than what you would sometimes see in mid-range or high-end PCs.

also, i give my advice based in part of what mkbhd said on his review some time ago... just think that you are doing something important and your software stop working... you'll lose money and some other stuff

That's an interesting topic. In the context of it I think x86 it's the architecture, Intel vs M1, not the 32/64 bit thing.
Also, as you both point well, as long there's no binary patching the vaccined software should work. I'm talking about native software here.

One think perhaps it'll need to be changed are the IDs that many software registrations (and therefore keyfile/serial vaccines) use.
I'm talking of the IDs based on the hardware, many times on the net card/chip.
Any M1 owners here can give us some hints?

This hasn't been an issue for me yet. The vast majority of the keygens work just fine with the "Key Gen App for Mac Catalina" on the M1 and even pull the Device ID without issue, and the ones which use the network card MAC ID work the same as they ever did. On the rare occasion where it didn't work, I was able to run the keygen on another machine and then import the license. As I understand it, Crossover also works on the M1, but I haven't gotten around to trying it yet.
