WOW,AWESOME SONG @benderandgaia ,im not sure what are those voice keys at :025 coming from which synth ?
anyone knows ? are they loops being sampled ?
i know i heard that same voice keys being used on one of blue system early songs so its must be a synth sound (maybe from E-MU library ? )

edit :never mind ,i found out the sound ''uh'' on yamaha modx / montage only ,no vst yet
(can someone send sample to me please ,i needed it badly

and i never heard nu shooz before so im grabbing other cool songs too ,they seems like to use big drums
so thank you for mentioning them here

That was an iconic preset from Fairlight. (̶t̶h̶e̶ ̶f̶i̶r̶s̶t̶ ̶s̶a̶m̶p̶l̶e̶r̶ ̶e̶v̶e̶r̶)̶. The sample is also present in the Art of Noise song "Moments in love". You can find this preset on the CMI V Arturia (preset name: Sararr)

i know this preset and so well its also used by michael cretu ,which is awesome keys i really like
but..and thats a big BUT with nu shooz it sounded as female sound saying ''uh''and its sampled to be played on keys
like the video i posted on my last post with the guy playing it correctly on his yamaha montage synth
,its sounded totally different than sararr keys on CMI

man if only montage get vsted by nocrack,
ill be the first to download it whether its 60 GB or more just to get my hands on that sound lol

This sample was the main hook of the remix of that song, done by dutch DJ Peter Slaghuis, back then a very productive DJ & remixer.
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_Slaghuis
Without it, the song sounded like this:

I don't mean to sound like a prick here bro, but Fairlight was not the first sampler, not even the first digital sampler.
Technically the first sample player -albeit fully analog- was the Chamberlin, since it played recorded sounds off tape via a keyboard. The Chamberlin idea evolved to the more known Mellotron but it was still analogue since it produced sound by triggering tape cartridges. But this of course was half the biz and those machines lacked the immediate "rec and play" function we 've come to know with digital samplers.
It wasn't until 1969 when the founder of the legendary EMS (VCS3, Synthi 100, Synthi A, Vocoder 5000), a much underrated nowadays inventor, Peter Zinovieff, invented the digital sampler and Peter Grogono went on to design the Musys for EMS, the first ever digital sampler powered by two micro computers of the time.
What the Fairlight CMI was, is the first polyphonic digital sampler and what we call DAW today, since it incorporated among other features, a polyphonic synthesizer, a sampler capable of recording sounds straight in it and a multi-track digital sequencer. Heh, Aussies paved the way forward with this... I still find it amazing, especially its lightpen feature looked like godamm alien technology back then.
    Much love :)
PS: Be sure to check my music post when it happens, i 'm still working on it, takes time because it's gonna be HUGE lol. Peace my friend :)

Interesting. I have never heard of this Chamberlin, Mellotron was certainly better known, even if I never took it into consideration as an actual sampler, in my opinion it is part of those exotic musical instruments of the past. If you want to write a more in-depth thread on this topic I will read it very gladly.
What the hell! Let's put some serious content on this lousy forum

I want to add that the first commercially available digital sampling synthesizer was the monophonic Computer Music Melodian by Harry Mendell in 1976. It was purchased by the prolific Stevie Wonder and used on his 1979 album “Journey Through The Secret Life of Plants.”

Note: I also want to add that the world owes digital sampling to Russian DNA and Russian grey matter. :headbang:

You sound like @babuk :hahaha:Sorry, let's get serious.

Guys and gals let us keep posting on point. Music from the 80s only. I am making an exception with "San Salvador" because even though the first release took place in 1979, the majority of this song's releases took place in 1980 and 1981. This song never was released in the USA. The 12" became one of the hardest to find and priciest. I was getting offers of $100 and $150 for one of my 12 inches which was not even an original pressing. The producer of San Salvsador was maestro Celso Valli, the producer behind Tantra, The Passengers, Andrea Bpcelli, Eros Ramazzotti, Laura Pausini, and in-house producer/arranger with DDD (La Drogueria di Drugolo)

Which is an album i cherish, probably Stevie's most "psychedelic" album.
May i add the first ever commercially released recording to include a sampler was Harrison Birtwistle's Chronometer (1975) which did include the EMS Musys. Harrison Birtwistle known mostly for his classical and post-classical work was also a musical explorer in the likes of Stravinski and to some extent my fellow Greek, Xenakis. His body of work gave him the honour of Knighthood and the title of Sir in the UK.
Chronometer, a difficult piece, falling mostly under the "music concrete" "genre", but so ahead of its time really. All these ideas in there, dam. Not for everyone, so excuse me @The Pirate for digressing, i will just post it for informational purposes, since it's not even 80s and certainly if you try to dance to it you will stumble and fall. But it's interesting to see how far we came since then:

@recycle : They say a pic can tell a thousand stories... Here it is, in all its former glory the EMS studio:

    I was thinking the same.

The B Sides had all the best stuff -Press Darlings, Beat My Guest, Christian Dior, Lady, Fall-in, Plastic Surgery, Red Scab. And this, the B Side to Zerox:

Adam and the Ants - Whip in My Valise

Not sure what my mother thought of me listening to those lyrics at 12 years old. Meh, I barely understood any of it :D

Easily their best album was the first - Dirk Wears White Sox.

I was listening, thinking this song is just like Kiss. The video even looks like it was shot on the exact same set, same lights on backdrop, everything. [First time I saw Prince live was just after Kiss (Wembley Arena AUG 1986). Happy days.....Made it into an after-gig show in London once, too. Lotta eye makeup. :D]

With that said, compositions using recorded samples date back to the 1940s with the genre known as musique concrete. Since we are talking about sampling and this thread is about 80s dance music, I will post 2 tracks in which the sampler played a big part.

Always an honor to include Kraftwerk in any discussion of electronic dance music.

HAHA thinking that today in a laptop you can have them all (Syclavier too) it amuses me.
When i bought the double album of Jarre of Concert in China in 1981 looking at the internal sleeves and seeing this huge gear I never thought it would have become available to common mortals, not the real thing, but I'm happy in anyway.

And direct successor of the Qasar M8. Power supply? Only 3kW!

So i guess you didn't even know of the Birotron, have a look:

Searching through my vinyls, I found also the maxi single of Tour de France.

I would like to present the work of some great musicians from my early country, Hungary, from the early 80's. Members of PR Computer developed the Muzix81 system at the time, which was used to make these recordings, and which later led to the creation of Midi after Japanese interest.........:winker:

@The Pirate AWESOME stuff man ,thank you
im checking the presets now ,there are some REAL good stuff if thrown in to a sampler and work from there
and im checking those CMI fairlight libraries ,im not sure if arturia CMI are using all the old libraries desks
which i consider as gold mine i need to dig deep to get all the desks (and the all the PPG waveterm A and B libraries )

i guess those vocal keys from nu shooz sog i cant wait were combined and pitched up to sound like UH coming from a female
(poor that dj peter ,he was just 30 when he died in that crash accident ..RIP )

guys anyone saw this this music clip from the early 80s ? ,i remember it did managed scared me ,

it has skeleton dancing and playing a synthesizer in the room ,i cant remember much
but i do remember alot of robot pieces wearing a trouser and moving or running according to the beat and even to vinyl scratching
and forniture moving and reverse and stuff ,as i said it was freaky clip ,

i dont remember much about the music but its similar to axel F lead synth (same lead keys but were playing weirdly )
i do remember it now :da...dat dat....da ta ta ta.then scratching vinyl ,it has robotic vocals mumbling something
the drums and beats doesnt have a reverb on it (like it was gated) ,
the camera focus on the skeleton and the robotic pieces and joints like it was a horror film ,close ups

i did checked some harold F music but i think its not his work
