All companies are going that way.
Because they know future is f*cked.
So they want to grab more money NOW.

Now, if they would just offer the vaccine (double dose of Moderna) as a free come-on, that would be very up to date marketing.

wow if mor ego this way, you end up paying a DAW per month?

Reason+ 10$, Izo 25$ (did they smoke something?), There were more?

Happy Ableton still runs the software game, also IL.
Wonder when NI will make the switch?

    Software is not a service.

    Applications are not a service.

An operating system is not a service.

    PERIOD.

Subscription software is a case study in business school these days ever since Adobe successfully raked in tons more $$$ doing it. Now. all the other software publishers are salivating too and looking at putting their software on subscription. Big money makers are all subs... phones, internet, cable TV, etc. Get the monthly check, every month, in perpetuity. With software, as soon as you cut off the subscription, you can no longer bring up your photos, mixes, etc. So customer retention is VERY high. You should expect to see more software companies moving to subscription service. Instead of getting $300 every several years when you upgrade (most don't grab every upgrade), they now get $300 every year, in perpetuity, until you stop and then no longer have any function. Its the difference between owning a home (perpetual license) and renting an apartment (subscription service). Payments never stop, you never own it, and their revenue goes up and up.

I've never bought anything from these clowns - with the exception of grabbing a free copy of Izodope Elements during the holidays. So glad most of my audio fiat dollars goes to hardware.

This sucks but IMHO their best stuff has been out for a couple decades already and I can do everything I need with them. New stuff all looks pretty with minor changes to functionality. This is the way of the world now.

The worst of them actually remove functionality in newer versions

Kinda glad, that the only things I have from them I got for cheap, so I don't really rely on them.

But fuck Izotope for disrespecting everyone who paid top dollars for advanced version and are now getting fisted. :D

yeah... stoopid is apparently there's a "discount" to join NOW, but yeah there's NO DIFFERENCE RIGHT NOW so how do we know it's WORTH IT?

It's like vaporware. I was secretly hoping when I read this yesterday that it was "April 1" or something. Clearly "subscription" is the answer to "fedeat privacy" - so like you'll HAVE TO HAVE YOUR COMPUTER CONNECTED TO THE INTERNET TO EDIT/MAKE MUSIC

but the MINUTE a version gets "released" on the sister site, the NEW UPDATE for SUBSCRIBERS ONLY etc will be MADE AVAILABLE thru the OFFICIAL CHANNELS... LOOK AT FL STUDIO... it's CONSTANTLY IN BETA that's "THEIR ANSWER" TO BEAT THE SCNE

between some time you have main releases on the sister site... and sometimes the official updates are related with things that were fixed by the cracking teams (softube plugins or slate digital, for example)

and they KNOW us MUSIC NERDS suffer a serious case of FOMO: Fear of Missing Out. Look at Bitwig... Everyone says, "No" but it turns out they like *BUY IT EVERY YEAR* - "NOW we got THE GRID..." (can you AFFORD to MISS OUT? etc) - that's how they play it...

Sometimes, I think the savvy developers use THE SCNE as a sort of "STUDENT PRICING" for the real hard-up or whatever... especially when they're starting out. They make it like Crack Cocaine - "free samples" to "get you hooked" - like when FL Studio was regularly *kraken'd* - then it gets to the point that like Martin Garrixxx lol posts a video with using kraken'd and so it becomes like the ultimate *MUST HAVE* - so everyone's on board... BINGO... now make it SUBSCRIBER ONLY - and what are you gonna do??

Izodope played this *really really well* - I didn't see it coming - yeah, the sales were CRAY ZEE - now we know WHY... watch that "Ozone Pro" will be like the DeMixer Pro/Audionamix stem maker shit... where you HAVE TO CONNECT TO THE SERVER TO "GET ACCESS" FOR IT TO "WORK"

Servers and Networks and bandwidth is so *readily available* *so cheap* - the MUSIC SOFTWARE INDUSTRY IS TOTALLY LIKE: "WELL, YOU'RE LEGIT, RIGHT? AREN'T YOU? SO wHY hAVE aNY QUALMS about CONNECTING ONLINE?? HUH?"

how will the SCNE defeat that?

"I *MUST* have the *latest* version of S1 at ALL TIMES... OTHERWISE I CAN'T WORK" (that's the MENTALITY they're trying to cultivate and feed)

    lol no. Reason+ is $20/month

At least PA has like a million plugins. Or Kilohearts subscription is $10/month. And both of them basically refund most of your money as vouchers. That's a deal that makes some sense, though not to me.

    Izotope and Reason right now:
