This is an honest account of what happened to me. Thank you to those who through private conversations here know that my story is a true account of what happened to me in the early 1980's. While this may seem to be a cruel hand dealt to me in the music business, what happened to me in 1990 and also related to music was far worse. It stopped me making music completely and only now after 30 years am I back to writing thanks to medication and a good psychiatrist. Or maybe it's good medication and an average psychiatrist.

 

Out of touch and old sums up the thread, exacerbated by the link to the other thread which shows two artists whos music fell out of popularity a fair while ago and only being propped up by antics on social media, combined with the finger wagging of people whose nostalgia blinds them from the cringy gimmicky acts of their own time and ignoring the cyclable nature of the music industry in terms of what is popular which is sped up considerably thanks in part by the internet. Not even going into " Some rich **ck from some petrol area nicki minaj & cardib su**d big time" in the polls.

If you are not active into the new generation of music, stop bitching and become active. Then you can properly critique it without looking like a bunch of borderline racist caricatures of your parents of when you were young and they didn't understand the music you listened to, then you can do something about it.

The shows are 'fed' the product to show. I know because I was told the Christmas #1 as early as September for years in a row, and the 'grooming'/programming of the masses happened on the morning TV channels months ahead with some other clever placements or usages.

And yes, for decades now Cowell has been the one who can make a 'hit' and a 'star' always happen, guaranteed.
It's a known thing, but it still surprises me.
I have many first hand experiences from this strange industry.
Such that I do teach keyboard/piano and recording but now I will not promote the industry in any way to a younger person.

Nah, this is my only account. I just lurk here a lot and got tired of the crying and moaning of the vast "Why isn't my style of music" (often of the past) "as popular as xyz" on this site every few months, disguised as legitimate discussion . Always blaming everything on nonsensical shit like racist conspiratorial rich arab men controlling the music industry, which I must admit is a change of pace from the usual antisemetic Jews. Or the fact that they are getting older and what the younger generation makes is not up to their liking which is okay because that's just what happens to most of us as we get older and that's okay. But at the same time you guys most likely have acts that are your cup of tea in the indie scene, who do have a decent following even comparable to major label acts and just as much success. But these threads are never about the betterment of music, to get what you love out there, or to explore those who you may feel deserve more light. Nope, just to shit on people for self gratification. And judging by this users bases average tastes from lurking for so long, a lot of you guys are way too old for that shit.
