Does that mean they're looking forward to a matriarchal society and employing only women? :)

True, but cons of subs from what I can gather:

    1. the needs to always be online kills the portability factor, considering some people like to write their music on the beach in their bikini.
    2. some people just like to own stuff they paid for (in a long run, it can possibly be more expensive), and deny the user choice to sell it for some returns if they feel like it or didn't like the product.
    3. something that has to do with development of the product, I don't really understand this correctly but it has to do with developer will be lazy to develop new features, updates since they know the customer already paid for, ie, a year, they aren't going anywhere. Most of the subs model encourage user to get the yearly subs with good discount, so. I don't really get it, but some think it will be like that (or already like that).

Simple reason: Nobody really needs Cubase anmore - there are simply way too many good alternative these days.
That was a diff story 10~ yrs ago. Steinberg can no longer afford annoying users with that awful Dongle.
PPl will just turn to another DAW that works seamlessly without hassle :)

If they want to return to being an option for the market, they should adopt the route that presonus is taking: purchase or subscription. If you buy, it will give you several activations and with access to all updates until the next version. If you subscribe, it will include the above, in addition to a community with which to collaborate on music online and updates permanently (regardless if they launch the next version, you will have it). and this, just by renewing the session started every so often

oh yeah ahahahahaah i think there may be a possibility to apply reverse engineering and kinda of porting the software ''aftermarket'' to windows or even linux... but i'm not sure if that is a real thing and if someone will have time to do it

Is there a way to swap to Ableton Live Suite from Steinberg Cubase Pro, if that happens ?

fuck it, you get cracked these days, this year even the "uncrackable" were cracked, the game is over, what can you do about, all companies do, people still buy legit software, for support and other reasons.
many went legit after using air cubase 5 for some time.
i also think the protection is a massive bottleneck and they just can not continue with it if they want to compete with other daws, imo the protection takes too much resources and i think this is the bigger reason they are ditching it, but saying its for the people makes them look better.

that was always true for hobbyist, but dont kid yourself
all the major daws are here to stay.
and as always, a simple dongle is maybe an annoyance for some
but professional just deal with it.

Nobody really needs, Cubase/Protools and so on, anymore
is just out of touch. Maybe in a few years till then:shalom:

well the trend now is online authorization like sylenth, vital and captain plugins, cant crack that unless there is a way to unlock the software and not need the net to auth,

sometimes they do crossgrades, just write them and see.
Some shops offer you a student discount aka edu if you/they are nice

and always second hand is always good, last week i saw an cubase 8.5 for 179€ (edu)
Steinberg doesnt care about 2nd hand sales + you can
upgrade edu versions (to newer reg.versions) just like a normal user for 99-150

maybe thats also because things like Falcon are tougher to beat

anyway steinberg is not the only one dropping dongles:thumbsup:

Once Reaper adopts a native Chord Track, it is GAME OVER!

nope. Reaper feels like a very cheap apartment in siberia, where you need to do everything yourself.

Perhaps I should have specified then: I was referring to Cubase Pro, as far as Steinberg licensing goes.

Isn't that eLicencer and not iLok? I don't use anything from SB so I'm not fully familiar.
