This one still brings the chills, Deutsche Amerikanische Freundschaft (D.A.F.) - Der Mussolini:

D.A.F. was a proto-industrial German outfit that managed to produce incredible tracks, using basic synth tracks and repetition and very confusing lyrics. They referenced the Fascist/Nazi era with extreme irony though it probably won't fly these days anymore, they had a song called "Die Götter sind weiss" ("The Gods are White") for fucks sake.

This song (in English): "Dance Mussolini, Dance Adolf Hitler, Dance Jesus Christ". Repeat till numb. A true classic.

@phumb-reh You got me with that one! I never heard it until now. As soon as I did it reminded me of Romeo Void's "Never Say Never"

I remember mixing it with A Flock of Seagulls' "Telecommunication", Billy Idol's "White Wedding" and Ultavox's "Dancing with Tears in my Eyes" among others.

Man that Romeo Void tune is a killer! That's something I never heard before.

Regarding D.A.F. on my occasional DJ gigs it still works on the dancefloor.

I still remember when Columbia sent us the 12" and the A & R made appointments with about 15 of us playing in NYC area clubs in order to gauge the crowd's response. It was the same everywhere. People loved it. The band never was able to capitalize on success because a couple of year later they broke up as a result of Columbia pulling the plug on the band. The label was unhappy with the singer's Debora Iyall obessity. They gave her an ultimatum which she ignored.

Do I have to be the first one to post a song by Depeche Mode? "Strange Love" was their first # 1 hit on Billboard's Hot Dance Club Play Chart.

Who would have said back in 1983 that DM would go on to sell over 100 million albums? Back in those days radio would not even play them. Indeed, only dance oriented radio stations embraced the band.

The New Order Factus 8 EP is incredible considering the kind of music they were making a few months earlier as Joy Division.

Same could be said about FGTH's Relax, that was banned on national radio here yet sold a lot of copies (partly because it was banned)

@Futurewine I will allow it only because I met Tolga. A good DJ turned producer friend of mine, Aldo Marin, opened a label, Cuttin' Records, and Tolga was featured as an artist on the B-Side of Corina's "out of Control. Talking of Cutting Records, who remembers this?

Shut out to Aldo, Amado, Jerry, Benji, Music House on Dyckman, "cogele el beat" :headbang:

I've started collecting 80's 12" releases, there are so many good releases out there and so much that can be sampled.

Edit: Ben Liebrand is a good place to start

I had. the most amazing thing about him and proof that music has no barriers is the fact that he was a product of the Iron Curtain. Born and raised in Communist poland. A musical genius. We called him the Polish Moroder.

i think the big girls from the 80s deserves a mention here too ,like
    sabrina ''boys boys boys''
whitney housten (oh yeah this has all disco elements)

samantha fox ''surrender ..produced by astrop in 1987 ,i guess this was kinda disco sound with guitars

''/''touch me'' is another great song
kim wilde ''you keep me hanging on ''(fantastic extended version)has also that disco sound with guitars

and i remember i saw this on TV and immediately said to my brother this song looked like was made for sandra and this french singer lady stole it ..of course this was produced by michael cretu ,man just listen to how this ballad song gets higher and bigger by the end ,absolute genius

i checked the thread and strangely no one mentioned ''alphaville'',....say whaaaat ?
heres another great group deserves a mention with good 12'inch extended version

good stuff everyone ,lets keep going

What a tasty thread... Even though I'm not from 80's, always loved music from that time since childhood. And now grown to love that sound design :D

I think I'll be hated for this but still, time to spice up the thread

When you take an entire decade that was much more diversified as far as genre were concerned you are going to get a very big list.

Cool and the Gang, Parliament Funkaldeic, Rick James, Prince, Duran Duran, New Order, Technotronic, Salt & Peppa, New Order, The Bangles, Bananarama.

Maybe narrow it down a bit because DANCE music is really a large net.

But first there was this one. I was totally baffled when I got to know it sold gold in the US and twice as much records in France than in Germany

Not to forget the outstanding drummer performance.

I'm surprised we are in page #3 without mentioning THE song which turn everyone who's not vomiting immediately into an air-drummer

    Speaking of mashups
