Well they've done enough and the helmets are there because I am assuming they don't really care about fame.

They get to retire early, isn't that what we all want out of life.

    Good for them.

    Really!
But is this the end? Not necessarily, as shown many times.
    Really?

That last album was overhyped waaaaay too much. Almost like a self proclaiming 2nd coming of Jesus kinda vibe. They were innovators for sure!! Not sure if this is another stunt they’re trying to pull for a future overhyped reunion album 5-10 years from now lol...

Yes, for me at least, I wouldn't mind retiring early enough to enjoy everything I've worked and accumulated while I was a live for before I have to worry about spending all if it just to keep me alive and worry about death more than I think about life.

I don't know about you but I wouldn't mind not having to work for a living and just live for a living. We all assume that just because people make a music for a living they are doing what or saying what they want. That it isn't always the case. Besides at some point someone might want to focus of children or grand children or something that means something to them.

In any case at that level if you get bored with retirement and fun you can always go back to work anytime you want.

    Triangles. :like:

Yeah, I'd quit too if I had their money. Or rather I'd work on other side projects, just with little to no emphasis on touring. Personally, I've always liked the approach Future Sound Of London had. They were reclusive so they used to release their stuff over ISDN and that was that. Anyway, all the best to them.

Here's a personal favorite, fitting in so many ways:

I was saving this killer remix for my next playlist but fuck it, enjoy it early:

    I'll sign that.
Just the feeling of being truly independent is nice.
Not having to work in a job you love might be too. But usually not for long. That's when most of those people start doing something that looks dangerously like a job again.
I wouldn't bet on the two of them not being back in two years somehow.

P.S.: In my career I had a two-year sabatical with full pay. After that, I was happy when I could go back to work again. Feeling good with retirement depends much on age and circumstances.

A sad day because I imagine anyone that loves music loves daft punk. Whatever type of music you listen to, the quality of the music released by daft punk is there for all to see. But I expected this, already for a few months, because in The Weeknd last album you can see in the credits for production only the name of one of the 2 of Daft Punk duo, so they've already been considering this for a while.
Anyways it's not like they were releasing much music in the last few years, and I doubt they would have released much more stuff even if they kept going. I guess, in a way, today's music scene doesn't really represent their style anymore. Today you have trap and all this kinda stuff that is so far away from what daft punk used to do. Their productions for The Weeknd was their last gift for us.

And yea I totally agree, they get to retire early, we all would love to be able to do so.
Normally I wouldn't even be too sad about this, but what makes me feel a bit down is that there aren't really other artists of their level around to replace them. It's not like they are leaving the spot for someone new to fill it. Instead of their tracks, there will just be another spanish song with the usual rythm and usual sounds, or another trap song with the usual rythm and usual sounds, or another crappy unlistenable ariana grande song. This is today's top music scene and this is what makes me feel really sad about this. To see that some of the really few good artists left are retiring and nothing else to look forward to.

We will probably continue to hear music from them though, just not as a duo, maybe just one of them will continue producing other artists.

Just wanna say that the epilogue video was ruined by them showing off the explosion 3x from different angles like a god damn Steven Seagal flick.

I am sure both will still keep their current lifestyle, this is a symbolical break.

Anyone knows part of their film directions?

    What about Justice?

Ever heard of Roulé Records ? It's been Bangalter's side project since '95 and included tracks with the legendary Romanthony (RIP) and of course Stardust's Music Sounds Better With You.
Ever heard of the Crydamoure label? It's been Guy-Manuel's side project since '97.
So if by mentioning these doesn't make it apparent, the boys have been doing side work since forever.
I beg to differ on this. I remember around late 2010-early 2011, hearing through an acquaintance of mine that Daft Punk were making a new album going back to strictly analog tech and utilizing musicians and i was telling my friends that i thought this was gonna be a great album and huge. Everyone was mocking me, especially the younger ones, turned around and told me "haha, those guys are finished", "blah blah, they can't make anything substantial anymore", "nobody cares" and all the other shit i keep hearing here as well every other day.
And then Get Lucky came in 2012 and everybody SHUT THE FUCK UP with Daft Punk having the biggest hit ever in their career and being Number 1 in over 30 countries.
    What do i mean?
The easiest thing is to sit in the comfort of your couch and provide "boudoir" philosophy to impress the unitiated...
Overhyped my ass. They fucking turned the world upside down with their disarming simplicity and return back to basics manoeuvre. Lemme see you achieve even a top 50 with a godam retro disco track. Not even Jamiroquai could hit such high in 2012.
Plus, the R.A.M. album stands as (probably) the last epitome of analog recording and sounds nothing like it's peers but rather like it's from another era completely. An era when musicianship, inspiration and talent played a much bigger role in the music industry than FB/Tweeter/Instagram followers and fkn YouTube subscribers. Godamn info leeches the whole lot of them.
Thanks for listening and yes, i will miss the boys. Daft Punk rules fools :).
Errrr screw Justice? Lemme just get my groove 909 & 303 on:
