There something that should be taken in account about "simplification plugins" it's that if you are a composer and a musician, you need all the time you have to do your thing, and being an engineer is also a full day path.
The choice is not about if you want or not to learn to mix, it's about priorities because unfortunately we only have 24 hours a day.

So those simplification plugins can be very useful for composers and musician.

    Morning Oly.
So it sounds like you are agreeing with some of the points I made earlier.
I tried to be objective and represent both sides of the coin, as you read.
It's sad, but maybe if one is just a writer, I agree. Because:
So leave it to the mix engineer?
Rather than skimp and use a plugin that doesn't really tell you what you are doing?
Why are our generation and the elder mentors implying we can do it all on our own anyway?
We all know this isn't true and it doesn't jive with how it's always been.
So I guess it all comes down to just making money again.

Of course, there will always be a customer for any product.
And this is a good product. And fairly priced too. Until I find out more about it with plugin doctor!

After trying it out, my professional opinion is that if one is happy with not being able to change the crossover points of the mb, along with all the other uneditable aspects, and it saves time, then fine.
But upon trying it I found it restrictive, and I imagine that you would too.
And as I've already said, I want to know what they did to create this.
But they aren't really saying, so it's up to us to analyse it.
And that alone is a red flag to me.
If it was made by Acustica or Waves, I wouldn't even question it.
Although I'd still not want to use it either way!

In the glory days of Capitol Records, most of the magic after the mix was done in mastering.

And so we're already down the path of "Unless you play the guitar you built yourself from the tree you grew and wound the strings using metals you dug up yourself, you're not a real guitarist."

    Oh crap. haha.
I really hope I don't sound like that to you, but obviously I do!
I'm not actually of that ilk.
Considering I'm mostly a keys player, I'm never really playing a 'real' instrument that I can bend notes on or break a string, so I've always felt like a cheat anyway! lol
I mean, synths too? It's all cheating.
    Thank you for your observation.
It's good to have a reflection.

Absolutely, that's why I don't use them. I still have and want to learn.

I dont think it simplifies , when you just use a tool without knowing what it does its lottery and some day you sit with a 'customer and pack this tool on thinking yey but then this time it wont work on the material .I am no mix guy but you need to know whats happening to do further decisions .

Smoove, you've done the exact opposite of this. Not only did you give the plug-in a fair shake (a fairer shake than I would have given it, for sure) but you went on to suggest that musicians might want to pay a professional to do their mixing/mastering for them if they don't want to be bothered to learn how to do this stuff.

And of course, historically, real recording artists *did* pay someone else to do it for them. Someone like Al Schmitt...

If the record gets an award the engineer gets a Grammy Award, however, it depends on the percentage of work performed on album. The percentage varies from genre to genre. An engineer can get lucky and end up with several awards from just one album.:hillbilly:With that said, there are only 3 most coveted awards that go to the engineers (artists names appear in parentheses) . These are Best Engineered Album, Non-Classical, Best Engineered Album, Classical, and Best Immersive AudioAlbum. In other words you may end up with 7-10 awards on a single year and none were a Best Engineered award...then you need a room just to display them or use them as paperweight or as weapons against any artist that crosses the line.

Contrary to what everyone thinks, not everyone gets the award. Among those who do not get it are these:

    • Pro Tools engineer, the editor and the operator
    • Engineer for mix
    • Assistant engineer/second engineer
    • Assistant mix engineer
    • Mastering engineer

Edit: As a side note, without getting too off topic here, I want to add that a mastering engineer is not eligible for a GRAMMY statuette except in the categories of Best Historical Album, Best Immersive AudioAlbum, Best Engineered Album Classical, Best Engineered Album Non-Classical, Record of the Year and Album of The Year—subject to percentage rules in Album of the Year. (Mastering Engineers are eligible to receive a Winner’s Certificate for all winning albums.)

Well, in the beginning Schmitt says somehting like, "I have a thing at the end that my mixes run through and that's what the plugin does". This vocal chain sounds really incredible. I think putting this plugin is an ettempt to broaden tu user base from pure professionals to hobbyists. I think it's not good for their reputation to release shit like this – even with the Al Schmitt approval. That's some waves stunt right there.

Warren Huart has become a real marketing/salesman whore of the youtube audio world. I used to watch his videos in the beginning. But as soon as he started plugging all the newest and mostly shitty plugins from waves (not the good ones) without actually being honest about them I was like, "yeah, yeah, marvelously well my ass. Gtfoh mofo". ;)

Maybe he's not so truly being honest to make himself even more legendary?

That ain't your opinion, right? Who said that?

Stumbled across that one & stopped watching after skipping ahead to vocals & bass. Well recorded tracks that have already been treated as in all other examples so far. Still not impressed...

I can tell you that he is telling the truth. That is the same way I was taught. Automation and moving faders makes it easier.

Yeah, regarding compression. Of course. I maybe didn't quite understand the "no EQ" part. If he is talking about not using EQ on the overall mix, that does probably not include using EQ on the submix and the busses, channels or maybe he could even use filters on the overall mix that are not considered being EQs... ?

Because mixing all the way through without touching the frequencies, really??? Did he never had to mix stuff other people already recorded where he could not change the mic position? I'm sure you can clear that also.

Off topic, moy drug, I know the cover of a book is not guaranteeing the fun you'll have reading it. But I feel your cover could use a little more of:

No offense to the chick you promote right now, but to me you are a lot more than the forum slut. This one here seems to know all about omnisphere a lot better! (of course the slut is less fake in the upper third)

I don't know about you guys, but I REALLY can't look at any of these plugin reviews, these dudes look and sound so weird, lame and fake.

The simple plugins with less controls would be great IF they ended up giving still a pro sound (maybe with some sort of good artificial intelligence to understand the context of the mix). The thing is that these plugins algorythms are not very smart. It seems to me that anyone can get better results with other proper plugins and a few tutorials on youtube.

I didn't even bother testing this Al thingie, it sounded terrible in the description, useless concept, and its sound is the same that you can get with all other "easy to use" cheap plugins that nobody wanna use rly.

My advice is, if you are lacking time to make proper mixes and want to try get things done fast with stuff like this, rather don't, and get your mixes done slowly over many days, the satisfaction will be a hell of a lot bigger and with practice you'll end up getting mixes n tracks done faster.
The easy way is almost always the wrong way, unfortunately :)
