Yeah. I bought the last perpetual Adobe Master Suite CS3.
Just before Adobe switched to the subscription model, they did a customer survey. In that customer survey, I answered all the time that I thought the idea was highly bullshit.
But I couldn't complete the survey. That was only possible if people saw the subscription model in a positive light.
Ergo: Adobe didn't really care what users thought. It was just a matter of getting us ready for the changeover.
I'm still using CS3. That's only because it's not a subscription. Never paid a dime to Adobe again.
Most customers are lazy sheeple today and not willing to protest or resist.

I don't mind developers offering this an an *option* - if you upgrade your bundles regularly, and have a lot of Waves plugins the subscription can make sense to spread the payments.

(To most of us, subscriptions are too expensive and offer too poor value to consider, for the most part).

But when I looked at the packages, I was appalled. I was expecting $20-30/mo for access to all the plugins (like Plugin Alliance do), but it's just a handful of options for basically just the oldest plugins (I mean, I like the Renaissance bundle and bought a bunch of them a while back, but the world has moved on a bit since then), but the $7/mo subs is basically a *cut down* Native Power Pack from about 1995, and the most expensive bundle merely adds another 40 or so old plugins, almost none of the newer, arguably better stuff - so you'd still have to buy those if you wanted them.

    That's a really terrible deal.

They should look to how PA do it - a few different bundles, you get the yearly the yearly cost of the subscription (or more) *back* in vouchers to spend on permanent licenses, and you're not limited to just the old stuff, you get the brand new released stuff to, appropriate to your bundle.

Yes, and I am convinced of it. Really good stuff. At least as good as my CS3 licenses. And as I love to learn new things it was really no problem at all to slightly change habits

But ... You know there is always a but ... when you have employees it's always about "workflow, standards and doing things the way we've always done it!" They can't be helped there. I'm definitely not buying an Adobe subscription. Not in this life! But in five years I'm retired may be their new boss is a Adobe lover again

Using CS6 & LR5. That things I'd use not existing autonomously but being both tied to internet and money siphoning schemes grinds my gears to no end, heh.

Be heading over that way near future. Lightroom has many competitors to chose from as well

Same shit, different day. I personally subscribe to the school of "Fuck Off High". They are treating potential customers as sharecroppers or West Virginia coalminers. They are putting their employee's jobs at risk and I'm sure cutting the R & D to save a bit more for their executive yearly bonuses. They're in a race to the bottom.

I have not used Waves products in a... so long I can't remember maybe 2010 or something like that, when the first iteration of WUP was announced, but even then I wasn't terrbily attached.

Back in the day Waves ran on Digi/TDM and you if you were running AVID PT/MC/MA it covered all your needs that weren't covered by stock or it gave you a little variety. Plus there really wasn't really much else, it was somewhat revolutionary.

Now it's pretty much same shit different day. Average to bellow average sound. Bellow average innovation and a metric double barreled shit-ton of Signature series bundles with some old fat boomer with Botox on the box and a GUI straight out of Fullmetal Alchemist on LSD with a 8-ball chaser, meaning lots of metal looking swirls, fake rust, and un-fucking understandable and as un-ergonomic and as counterintuitive as possible OR one button cool sound extreme, twist here for 1337 epeen skillz and pwn nubz wit phat beetz.

I honestly don't know why people even steal that shit much less pay for it.

Because there are some plugins by WAVES that are very good and quite useful. Indeed, there are some of us that use some of its plugins all the time. I am not a WAVES fanboi but that does not mean that I would blanket trash all of its products. Moreover, when you factor in the price some of these plugins are a bargain as they can be purchased for as little as $29. The WAVES trashing reminds me of the iZotope trashing years ago. Both companies are still around, people still buy their plugins, cracking teams continue to release their products, and life goes on.

Might be true. I might be guilty of bias since I've shunned them for so long. I am not bashing them out of any prejudice or preconceived dislike for the company, I just haven't found any of their products interesting enough versus what else is available.

Though I will admit that I do like iZotope stuff, but that's an other story to be addressed in it's own space.

If my Waves account still works I might demo some, I'll keep my eyes and ears open to see if people are raving about anything in other threads as this thread about something else. They just haven't grabbed my attention with anything for the past decade.

On the subscription thing. All I can say that it does make financial sense in film/post production/seasonal work especially in broadcast/live and film where budgets are by project and people have a tendency to disappear with full licenses at the end of a project or producers & sound engineers have different tastes. You never own anything but if a season is 4 months long you don't have to amortize the cost over 12 months when you only use it for a 1/3 of the time. As a small/medium studio that is expected to have all things all the time though it does suck, for a large studio it is sunken cost. All the rest is just numbers

    Regarding Waves!!

Buy their plugs when they´re one a nearly daily sale - Im having about one/two sale mails a day from them - and buy if the plugs you´re offered makes sense to YOU!!!

A so called subscription plan from Waves without any chance to own the plugs you subscribe in the end, is indeed a kamikaze plan for both YOU and Waves.

I expect Waves with this plan to be out of business in a short time - with all the negative consequences it will have for all their customers.

    true...
50 years ago everyone was a coalminer where I live. My both grandfathers were. Died early and poor as church mice and the mine owners made a comfortable living on their backs.
Nothing really changed but the industry they are in. The people who work most and make the wheels turning are the poorest at the end.
It's the same for the software industry today, was'nt NI in the papers regarding this lately?

By the way ... a little back on topic:
A software subsription could be of benefit for both sides
if the manufacturer makes a concession: e.g. if the user has paid for 15 months and thus provided a little more than the purchase price, he can opt out at any time and is frozen on the last paid version. That would be fair, I think, and then I would possibly buy subsription.
Otherwise, the vendor has me in his hands, because without Subscription I can no longer edit my own projects.

My family is from West Virginia, and although nobody in our family worked the mines, the industry of mining for coal has helped to maintain a permanent underclass, destroy the natural beauty of the land from mountaintop removal, pollute the water and contribute to an abundance of cancers and suffering from miner`s succumbing to Black Lung Disease and other ailments for lack of oversight from the greed and no concern for the safety of those miners by the owners of those mines. Although NI is of course not guilty of atrocities against both man and nature, their new subscription policy sucks nonetheless. If a company is making a healthy profit they shouldn't be cutting 20% of their workforce like they did. I don't cotton to that kind of behavior.

This was perhaps what you were referring to.

I think exactly this is the purpose of this subscription model (apart from legitimately testing their plugins, ofc).
