Following a trend embraced by various plugin developers, WAVES Audio has launched a new subscription plan with prices starting at $6.99 per month. For more info go to https://www.waves.com/subscriptions...tm_medium=email&utm_campaign=w-series-nl2-sbs

Maybe in the short run these subscription models work for some but if you subscribe to any of these plans after 2 1/2 years you own nothing and have given away to WAVES what you would have paid to own all plugins included in plan outright. At least PA gives you a voucher worth whatever you spend on their annual subscription plans.

Yes. It is the never ending story. As I said, you just keep on paying without owning anything. :dunno:

When every month a developer jumps on the subscription wagon it means that subscriptions are profitable for them for them. It is client acquisition at its best because the client is paying for it. They hook you with the "low" monthly payment. You think of $20 dollars instead of $200. The DAW's are even worst. You don't even own the platform on which your music is made. Fucking ridiculous.

Yes guys. But this is where the entire world is going to. I am not a conspiration guy, but the Davos plan under the logo "You will own nothing and you will be happy" is pretty scary. And these Waves plans don't even include all their plugins. Just those very old packs.

That's why software has No value. You don't own it, just a license to use it, sometimes a limited license, one pc only install, need to pay for a dongle, etc, etc. This just pushes individuals to piracy who at times greatly improve the bug ridden original, R2R for instance.
These plugin companies and their rent- to - never-own schemes just force you to see software as a bad investment. Like my brother always says "If you can't hold it in your own hands, keep it on a shelf or in your bedroom or garage its not worth paying for!"

Yes, they may try. But they are not Waves. By far.
Changing the way of selling their goods is not that easy.
When your business model relies on new versions every year, your employee payment model is connected to it. Trying to change it to a monthly subscription need extra money, at least ~ 3/4 of a year's turnover, because employees payment, building rent and taxes etc. is the main costs they have. I don't think they make a big profit recently, because they have lost their innovative power.
Native Instruments has had several rounds of financing in recent years. It is questionable whether a lender will provide them with another annual turnover as a credit line. They only have one private equity firm in the background afaik.
Steinberg with Yamaha behind it looks completely different. I could well imagine that.

sometimes thats not to bad at all, i mean, the whole bundle is very expensive and so u can try for 7bucks a lot per month. Sure u still have to choose, which devs u want to pay. Would save big studio money?

For sure better would be, rent to own, like splice is doing for sylenth1, serum etc ...

Well as long as the blessing by R2R still works, im good with it.
