Hello there!

Is anyone else experiencing problems with Pro Tools (12.5 AudioUtopia) on Windows 10? For some reason, Windows decided to roll out an update overnight (that I didn't notice) and now ProTools won't function (I am not 100% sure it is because of the update). At first, it was hanging on initialising Databases for ages and then when it was all started it up, it became unresponsive. I reinstalled, now it's unusually long on 'Initialising controllers' and also completely unresponsive when ready...
I don't know what to do (besides doing a total Windows reinstall, which will take me days, and of which I don't know it will solve anything)

Hope anyone has tips!

 

well the windows versions of audioutopia stopped working after the 1903 update, they install but crash ableton so im guessing its the same for other updates, and why install a clean new win 10 just for a few plugins, it dont make sense

 

Well, a working DAW in which I can open my existing projects would be nice...

Unfortunately, no, I already updated the iLok drivers...

 

IMHO and from experience just do a fresh install. Media-Creation tool and install without network access to avoid the "account" stuff. At least then you've eliminated all the possibilities of "leftovers". If your Win10 is the other one, you know what to do!

 

Only thing you need to do is install Protools again. It will repair itself. Its running for me here solid on the latest version of 10.

I would like to know how you got a black skin for PT??? I would really like to add that so I am not blinded hahah

I used to have that turned on, but it seems since the last update, 12 ago, I can’t roll back to any point...

have you tried this:
for a fresh install i would advice you to delete these paths:

these invisible folders:
C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Avid
C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\Avid

these visible folders:
C:\Program Files\Avid
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Avid
C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Avid
C:\Program Files (x86)\Avid

and these registries
Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Avid
Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Avid
Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Avid Technology
Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Avid

 

Turns out you saved my life! It *was* due to some network drive that would not connect, which I overlooked. It was a drive that had nothing to do with Pro Tools but, as it turns out, still something it choked on. Thank you, and thanks to everyone else that came up with possible solutions!

 

Yes, always better to start fresh but I'm glad you got lucky with a restore. It's a PITA to do it all but sometimes it's a must and you somehow seem to downsize - like moving lol! For a bit anyways!

 

Mine is working great after the last Windows update too.
