    5 steel string acoustic, 2 classical, 4 electric, 1 bass, 1 ukulele, 1 dulcimer, 1 lap harp...plugins be DAMNED!

Since this is really a bass thread, the one I currently have is a Squire Jazz from prolly 2007 with active electronics that my neighbor lent me but doesn't seem to want it back in a hurry as he doesn't play the bass,

    @Lois Lane
OT, but seeing your Martin reminds me I have a Levin, which were bought by Martin, and it's a steel strung acoustic from 1911.
The alpine spruce was approximately 150 years old when they made it. So the wood is now over 250 years old.
    Sounds like nothing else.

In general we make real music with other real musicians with real instruments and that is the greatest luxury for music! E it's always worth learning to play real instruments while you're alive !!!!!!

I for one pray that it might be so. Music is has been as the walking dead since the moment German composer Richard Wagner died on February 13th, 1883. It was a dark day, that, and one in which civilization has not yet recovered, although the new work of Olivia Rodrigo has the chance to lift us of our burden and once again set us upon the path of light, creativity and rouse us to a new musical awakening.

That's just bass face dude. It's nothing to worry about.
It just means you slappin that bass just right.
With a name like Smoove Grooves, I imagine you have no need for a support group.
You sound like you've smelted some grooves in the past, no need for Waves Ass Fingers.

Exactly. As much as I love records, nothing will ever top experiencing music live for me.

These tools have their place too. You can easily use them to write demos before writing over the midi parts with real instruments.

It's kind of a double edged sword.

Yes it's worth it, but yes you can get the results other way.

But I think playing a real bass can get you slinkiness that you'd have a hard time programming with MIDI.

Slides & bends are going to be pretty hard & tedious to pull off in the box VS grabbing your bass & accomplishing these things within literal seconds.

Mixing hand techniques too, like say going from walking basslines with your fingers to slapping & various palm mutes in between.

The thing about real instruments is, each one is actually an interface which leads you to make different decisions through ergonomics.

Of course you can create a bass line in a piano, but considering that, for example, you can play both bass and piano, if you improvise a bass line over the same backing track on each, you'll end up with very different bass lines.

I play a bunch of instruments (yeah, that thing about being a jack of all trades, master of none).

If I improvise a solo over a 12 bar blues with a guitar and, let's say, a saxophone, I'll end up with two completely different solos. Why? Ergonomics.

Each instrument will lead you to certain mechanical movements which sooner or later will become muscle memory and will sort of mix with the musical idea in your head...Playing an instrument is not only intelectual, but physical as well.

In other words, the actual instrument has a huge influence on the final result of a composition.

So yeah, buy a bass. It's one of the most fun instruments to play, specially if you have someone close to you who play drums.

Bartollini MK1's on the SR line? I'm assuming. While not the best, it's still certainty doable & decent enough with worse stuff out there.

It's no prestige line of basses that's for sure but it's far from the worst. I keep my entry level Squire P-Bass in an old potato sack like a corpse from a Rob Zombie film, for example.

Though I'd agree if you can get a model higher, you always should. Same with amp wattage, even if you don't think you need as much. A bit more is always better. Especially with combo amps.

That is absolutely kickass man. Your custom bass is one chonky boi man. Give him an extra helping of Funk next time you see him. Wish I was in your boat right now too but I'm still learning how to swim.
I'm very heavily considering an Agulair half cab myself.
