I think a lot of what you say is true because everyone works in different ways, and for yourself, it’s part of your workflow. In my project studio (in garage of ex wife’s house) I have a ProjectMix IO that is used just as a controller and I love it, but in my bedroom setup, no room, so I end up then going to mouse / keyboard, and even then I use mouse more than keyboard shortcuts (I used lappy there until I got a dedicated PC and it was positioned out of easy reach), but I am now training myself to use the keyboard shortcuts more. Am a guitarist, so RSI s to be avoided!

if I had the space I would definitely have another surface, it does work for me, and I have watched too many album recording documentaries, so want to feel like I’m Bob Rock.

Is it? Or arrogance out of ignorance?

If you really want to get technical, my description was not fake because as copied and pasted from the SSL website it is correct. The faders on the UF8 certainly are touch sensitive faders. Moreover, all TSF are motorized. Have you known that, you had not complained about the lack of moving faders.:hillbilly:

Majority of faders these days in pro consoles are 100mm ones. On analog fader's its taper is as determinative as its length so you can have the same performance out of a 60mm, 80mm, 100mm and 120 mm fader. The critical db increase/decrease ( +10/-10 db ) can actually be as long on a 60mm as on a 120mm fader. The majority follow an A20. That is audio taper down -20 dB at 50% fader travel. On the other hand, on digital consoles the faders are simply digital encoders. The fader's curve, therefore, varies because it depends on the written code. Simply put, there is no need for a 120mm fader when 100mm one can do the job at a lower cost while keeping the size of the console down.

It looks like Behringer X-Touch improved version of BCF2000.
But for the price $1299 for me better is even BCF2000.
If I'm not wrong there are some last pieces still in some shops.
I have seen few months ago new BCF2000 for $249.
    New X-Touch cost $449.

Squishing the scale down to 60mm and having the same performance is like encoding a 128kbps mp3 and saying "look it is smaller and has the same performance"

Yes faders with 120 or 140 travel, are not common you are right there.. thats why i want to build my own bank of motorized faders

But, i still think this SSL controller is overpriced at 12 hundred euros.
Even if it has all the LEDs, motorized faders etc, its still a controller,
Even with the build quality being A+, its expensive.

Vro! I gave you an explanation of why fader performance can be the same on a 60mm or 100mm or 120mm faders. You can take it to the bank! Indeed, when you said that 120s or 140s are not common that absence should convey that they are not needed for better performance. I dont want to get into a pissing contest with you over a freaking fader. I only replied to your comment to correct what you had wrongly stated, and also educate you a bit about fader law. If you want to continue saying that a 60 mm or 100mm fader performance is inferior to that of a 120 mm one, that is your prerogative. As the saying goes: you can lead a horse to water but can't make it drink.

I have a bunch of controllers including the Faderport 8. If you are using Presonus Studio One it is a bargain. If all you want is the controls basic HUI can offer it is fine with other DAWs. If you want custom key commands built-in for many DAWs and ones you can program yourself the SSL seems like a good deal

Its not a pissing contest, i am fine with 100mm. Many use faders as musical instruments, not just for mixing stems. So total mm of throw and scaling of it is massively important.

60mm i was saying, is bullshit (unless you have tiny hands or dwarfism etc)

I am not interested in excuses for profit margins, Xmas bonuses, editing fader curves to fit a premade silkscreen cos its cheaper, and other bullshit that product engineers and paperturners fret over all day, i am an artist and musician, not an industry analyst waiting to be corrected on why SSL deserve a 60% profit margin due to brand recognition.
