would you not look to a refurbished Mini? Surely that would handle it and give you a performance boost?

@tylerv There is no denying that Faderport are good value for the money. However, you get what you pay for. The Faderports feel cheap to the touch. The faders and caps feel like toys. Indeed, the build quality is not as good as that of SSL or even the WING. We have an FP8 and a FP16 we received to test and one feature that we felt Presonus should have implemented but never did was panning and metering. Moreover, the use of USB connectivity in pro studios is something to consider. DANTE and AVB Ethernet rule. Any DAW controller should have it or at least give you the option to add it as in the WING. With that said, as a cheap Studio One companion it is hard to beat.

not for awhile. theres a lot of plugins that aren't developed for the m1 yet so if i do go that route (which i have considered) it'll be awhile to give developers time to catch up.

edit: if you meant an older mac mini that might be a good suggestion. i doubt id find one with the specs my mb pro has though for as cheap. i got the 2012 pro for $250 used with the 2.7 ghz i7 and upgraded the memory to 32g and the swapped in a 1 tb ssd and now have a pretty stout machine for audio for right around $400. i dont know that i could do much better spec/$$ wise on a mini.

ahh, this is true. i geuss i wasn't really looking outside of my personal home studio use. fp8 probably would be a bit under equipped in a real pro setting...

No motorized faders and the inc plugins are not nearly enough. looks like overpriced plastic shit to me
and endless encoders are never fun

@The Pirate i forgot to mention that the fp8 does have a pan encoder but there's only one. it just only operates on the selected channel. which definitely isn't as easy as fader/panner on every channel but i was at least able to get used to it. definitely not still arguing the "FP8's superiority" over the ssl haha. its clear by your reply that they are just different tiers of product for different levels of pro. just mentioning that it had the capability, though limited.

also, just throwing it out there... if you don't actively use the FP16 or plan to use it in one of your 3 sites (i caught your background info on the poll before it "vanished") if that unit is in the US are you interested in possibly selling? hope i'm not breaking any thread rules by asking. if so, very sorry to mods

    Here is my question.
Why not get a larger display and convert it to touchscreen?
(I was not talking about Raven)
You will be able to touch all your button and if the DAW supports, you will get multi-touch as well.
    Just my thoughts.
(I will be implementing my thought as well).

Plus, I don't understand this 'Mouse scroll Emulation' thing of controllers.
Why do we need a mouse scroll emulation in a world where mouse scroll is easily, readily and inexpensively available.

These controllers are only good for quick instrument balancing, gain staging and automation and sit idle for 90% of the time just occupying space and collecting dust on your desk.
Usually there is a process of buttons you have to engage to get from A to B and many people abandon these controllers just because it is quicker to do it with a mouse or single fader controllers.
Analog consoles are different because they are tied into the audio route and also have more quick options to sculpt the sound, they are built for fast and intuitive moves, these small controllers are not.

The question is , how good does it integrate, the the major flaw of all MCU Devices.
Especially when you like to use the Faders to Automate VST Effects / Instruments

Heck you can't even craete custom Controller Assignments and have to switch through pages.

The Best Controller Integration I tried so far is a Presonus FaderPort 16 in conjunction with StudioOne.

So far I tried and all suck compared to teh FP16 + S1
AVoID Command 8 + AVoID ProFools HD
    Cubase + Housten
    Logic + Logic Control
Logic + FaderPort in MCU mode

True with MCU invalid for StudioOne + FaderPort

    FAKE NEWS! FAKE NEWS!

Those are in fact motorized faders and touch sensitive at that. Touch-sensitive faders are very helpful when mixing. For example when using automation TSS will allow the system to drop into automation record mode the moment you touch the fader. Conversely, it will stop recording automation as soon as you release it. BTW, what seems like plastic to you is not plastic.

And still yet a generic protocol like MCU where you can't customize Plugin Parameter Mappings.

Companies shoudl invest more time creating a custom implementation, someth9ing like Nektar did with their Panoramas (not tried tehm yet how well they work )

Aha, well then the only fake news is your original post:
But i am glad to hear they are motorized, and that its metal not plastic.
very nice, i think this is one of the best ones ive seen for sale yet then.

But why doesn't anyone make a nice set of full 120mm motorized faders??, solo, mute buttons etc.

I must disagree. My Faderport 8 gives me super fast workflow when recording. Especially if you work with talents who like quick takes.
ARM -> SELECT TRACK -> RECORD. Done.
And it's especially useful for quick punch-in recording, overdubs etc... So my Faderport has paid itself over 20 times :)
