Listening to portable hi-end audio is a fascinating concept in theory, but hardly achievable in real life. First of all it is necessary to have very performing headphones (no: iPods are not hi-end): unfortunately the hi-end headphones are large, impractical, expensive and even a little ridiculous aesthetically. The context in which we listen is also important: walking surrounded by noise, traffic, subway, etc. will negatively affect listening. I don't really believe in portable DAC devices

Oh well. Never mind, eh? Try and remain friends and not let it affect things.

  3. I personally listen to Tidal digital music. I subscribe to the HiFi service. But it can't support offline listening on a desktop. As thus, I google to find a third-party Tidal converter to download Tidal songs to MP3 for offline playback on any play and device. Love it.

    1. Press Play
    2. Turn up Volume
    3. Enjoy music like a listener, not like a Frequency Analyzer!

"pratyahara" is right, since all your digital music needs to pass through analog gear anyway, you'd better get some decent amp and speakers or cans. As for sources and storage I'd go the way "G String" suggests. Then again if you need a remote solution get an app like foobar controller to access and control your music collection over wi-fi via Android tablet or phone.

It depends on device, I guess. Isn't Chord Hugo 2 portable, after all?
