I was in the process of modifying one of my OB-8 to get that low end thump like in the OB-Xa. The main difference sonically between the OB-Xa and OB-Xa is a loss of bass on the OB-8 due to a 22Hz high pass in the signal path. With this upcoming OB-Xa clone likely a reality, I will keep the OB-8 intact.

 

I wonder if they're gonna go with 4 voice polyphony to correspond with their Poly D and MonoPoly at $699 USD, or 6/8 voices and price at $799 like Deepmind.

Hopefully they will do 8 from the get go instead of offering first the 4, then 6 and finishing up with 8. We better keep silent about it as to not give Uli any ideas.

 

They need to go for the 8, not the 4 or 6

Yeah this very well might be my first hardware synthesizer if I see it's done correctly and not just thrown together cheaply.. i need a desktop computer and new audio interface first so I got awhile till ill probably get my hands on one.. but I love the emulations.. even just the layout of how the synth is and the sounds it can make.. definitely gonna be a hard one to pass on.

 

First OG OB-Xa were only 4 voices?

 

There were 4, 6, and 8 voice models.

And there's also still this issue, from wiki page of OB-Xa:

In 2017, Behringer announced it would replicate the CEM3340 VCO chips used in the OB-Xa synthesizer.[7] The widow of chip creator Doug Curtis released a statement clarifying that the replica was made without permission and that Curtis "would be deeply saddened by the attempt of others to trade on his name and to make unsubstantiated claims of equivalency to his original inventions".

 

They can go for 16 if Uli wants to improve on it and really go for a kill. And allow for the use of more than one filter at a time. Now, that will be something. The original has 2 filters but you can only used one at a time, so one filter is being wasted.

Edit: For those that don't know wtf I am talking about, the whole idea behind this design was to provide a switchable response between 4 pole, 24dB/Oct lowpass and 2 pole, 12dB/Oct lowpass. That is one filter per response.

At least we know that it wont be a 4 voice clone
