I was gonna do that that my Avedis ping ride a few years back, but I couldn't get through the fact that my baby was gonna be penetrated multiple times. *yes*

 

My last drummer did that. Only problem is he beat the crap out of them like he was tommy lee. Half a cymbal with those on the surviving side sound odd and always a little comical.

 

Yeah , Its should be used on a medium to heavy type cymbal.
And its really not about 'beating or hitting' , them really hard.

The way I got inspired to use this type of cymbal , was by
'Ginger Baker' ; while he was playing in the band call 'Blind Faith'.
Gawd ...... like when I was 14-15 years old !!! And it ran shivers
thru me gizzered !! (ie: listen to 'Cant find my way home') ; It'll
please your ears like nothing before , toward the ending of the song !!

The 'style' it just kills on , is while you use brushes ..... man !!!!
But the 'real' secret is a sweet hall verb with "reversed" decay on it.
It'll AMAZE you , take yer breath away.

If your looking to get that 'WHO sound crash' : (ie: who are you??).
Like at the intro of the tune. you gotta use a medium 22" to 24" cymbal.
"And for sure .... ALWAYz , drill your holes atleast an 1" to an 1 1/2"
"(measured from the outer edge - toward the cup of the cymbal !!)"
