I found some videos about reverse panning and I'm curious when you should use it and when you shouldn't.

 

You mean changing the drum's pan from player to audience?

Isn't your DAW capable of this? If it has something like a dual panner, just inverse it. Peace of cake with Cubase and Reaper and probably a lot more. But I wonder why anyone should make a video of this or what it's good for.

Im also uploading the preset, once you downloaded it, just load Fruity Stereo Shaper and drag the preset over it.
You can also click on the "arrow pointing down" at the top left side of the plugin and click in "browse presets" and then select the preset (after extracting from the zip)

Inversing the pan has nothing to do with the width of the source. Can you link a vid, please, I need to watch this.

EDIT: Are you talking about this??? And if yes, why didn't you say this right from the start?

That's just a cross delay or a cross reverb, even if the latter expression is pretty uncommon. And as he also mentioned in this vid, your DAW is probably capable of this.

I re-readed the tittle, so you want to know when to use inverted panning?
Well, here is some times that I find it useful:

1- Drums:
Most times I pick a drum that is *slightly* panned for some side, so, after 5min hearing it I feel saturated, so I want to invert, but If I just invert the panning, it will saturate my other ear, so I make an automation that everytime the drums hits (normally the clap) it inverts the panning for the other sides.

2- Vocals: I really like to use panned delays like h-delay from waves with the panning option enabled, but sometimes I want something more specific, so I use pan-man from Soundtoys and make it on a REALLY slow timing, for backing vocals and adlibs, but sometimes I also use them for double vocals, so, if the beat is too fast (like 180bpm) it sounds kind strange when it takes soo long to the vocal reach the other side of the ear, so I use the pan-man in the vocal itsefl and then I send it for a delay that is inverted, this way, whenever the vocal says something at left side, it will be replayed in the delay in the right side and vice versa... I really like it, its pretty cool
