    Hi guys,
Surge open source synthesiser is out.

    Changes in 1.8
In 1.8, we have introduced many new features, but also adapted a large collection of existing open source code to work inside Surge. We are especially grateful to these authors (noted in the changelog) for making their software available, for being friendly when we talked to them about adapting their software for Surge, and for being part of the free and open source music software community!

1.8 has hundreds of changes and features, but the headlines of the release are:

    • New skins, including the lovely “Royal Surge” skin and greatly improved Classic and Dark skins
    • New filters, with multiple new filter models
    • A complete implementation of a multi-segment envelope generator (MSEG) as a modulation source
    • A large number of Airwindows FX available in the FX chain
    • A bunch of amazing new content! We now have more than 2000 presets in the library!
This is short change log. For complete change log go here https://surge-synthesizer.github.io//changelog/

I uninstall this (RAGE) after I didn't find the way to make stereo sound ...
Will try to use Surge in the future again

someone please look at the code and see if the GUI can just be completely remade. skins look good, GUI not very fun to use.

One way is make a patch on scene A then copy it to scene B. Set Panning on scene A to 100% left and Panning on scene B to 100% right. Set mode to dual. Sounds like lot of work but it's a 3 clicks. 10 seconds and done. Probably there is a second way. I guess something with FX returns or phase. But there is a third way. Just use vst called Wider by Polyverse Music.

Man , thank you very much for this detailed answer ! I will download it again in a few days and try. Also gonna try to read manual, cuz all secrets explained there.

BTW its not obvious. I'm not a new user to sound design and stuff like that, and I just try to learn interface of Surge without any manuals and videos and I didn't find myself that "Wide Setting" . First impression is so important.

An added bonus from here on in is the bundled Airwindows effects as they are too open source. The cooperation and good vibes of this collaboration hints at days past of group efforts and good vibes, where...

    Oh yeah, oh yeah.

    I dig a Surge Synth.

I've actually always passed this synth by, but not this time. I've going to try to dive into it this time.

surge is maybe one of the first commercial synths i tried apart from NI stuff, which im using since 2004? thanks to some chinese page xD

so great to see it was put open source, the process of adding new feature is awsome and bugs and stuff are very fast adressed.

and yeah it has freakin python support

That would imply to rewrite the GUI code. Very hard to do. But it happens with all programs, open source or not.

depends on how the code has been organized, but I agree it's not trivial to do either way. I don't like to use Surge, because I can't get used to the controls, but at the same time I admire that it exists and respect the coders. I feel the same way about Zebra, Zebralette, Bazille, there's lots of pro synths I don't like to use because the controls aren't intuitive enough.
