In the late 90s I used a program called Zs-1b Amen specifically designed to chop the Amen break (for Jungle etc). side note: I found out the author made it open source a few years ago: https://github.com/ziadkhouri/ZS-1-Amen

What I liked about this program was you could randomly generate new reshuffled patterns. The drawback was it only worked with mono files.

I am looking for something similar, either standalone or VST-based. I am specifically trying to chop short loops into 4, 8, 16 slices, mute certain sections, and RANDOMLY shuffle these pieces around to generate different breaks.

Again I am looking for something with a randomize feature to mix up the slices.
I have attached an original/remix example below.

    Cheers

Very cool! I've never used that program. Long ago I would use these stand-alone programs :

    1.) Recycle
    2.) Wave Surgeon
    3.) Tuareg

If I want to use this technique nowadays (which is a great technique) I'll bring up FL Studio and use Fruity Slicer, or SliceX. I'm talking randomly re-ordering slices.

Ableton can easily do this with some plugin & LFO/RND routing. Or a crazy M4L device from the repository a user created and shared (...for free).

There are some old 32 bit plugins (can't remember names) that can do this.

**edit** Phatmatik Pro, New Sonic Arts 'Vice' (does it randomize though?), ........

Love to see other users responses.....

Rhythmiq by Accusonus does exactly this. They also have Regroover which gives more control is less "random".

If Reaper is your DAW, the script MKslicer is a good choice.
