Of course if you're judging from performances in Rosetta, you mustn't be the sharpest tool in the shed are you xD

Did you try shutting down your M1 Mac, starting it again while holding the Touch ID button to get to the Security options,
selecting your Mac HD, changing from Full Secure to the other Option, and ticking both boxes? I did this so I could go withing Big Sur's
security options and use my Touch ID to finally allow UAD control my device or something (the option never appeared when then Full Secure option was ON, which I think is the default).

I just bought an Apollo Solo, which sucks ballzz... returning it but made it work at least...

I also love macOS and I am using macOS daily but I am also resistant against blind fanboism.

Yeah I know my first G5 was also >4000 ... but in this thread we are talking about the current available M1's

How about Logix X in native ARM mode only using Logic Instruments, you tried that either ?

Super powerful, super flexible, easy to run and so far everything works, really reliable. Things are only gonna get better as Presonus, Bitwig and more companies iron out the wrinkles with native versions. Screw x86, this is the future. Very Happy Camper here, Haters gonna hate.

In short, yes and it didn't work. But seriously, this isn't really macOS mate. It is Microsoft's-wishlist-come-true OS lol. Do you really expect simple users to go through all this ordeal? Btw, i am happy you made it work. You probably have a tb3 UAD, i don't. And it's not my main interface anyway and i can understand your frustration about what uad costs and what you get in return:).
Yep, and in "native mode" it is probably the best Mac laptop in performance i 've ever sat on, tbh. Any LogicX user who uses extensively the -truly not few- tools Logic provides, is in for a treat. My calculation running the same projects on the 16" Intel i9 Macbook Pro 2019 (my cousin's 3k euro previous main machine) and M1, was that in native mode & LogicX, the M1 provides about 50% more performance than last year's Apple flagship Macbook with less noise and snappier response. Which is a win of course. The Intel Macbooks were really overpriced pcs. The M1 is a strange iPad derivative-but much welcome- oddity and singularity if you like and while at the moment i do think it was rushed in order to differentiate themselves marketwise, i am sure that the future iterations of this tech will be the modern adversaries to the aging x86 technology when it comes to consumer and prosumer markets, giving them a run for their money.
Lastly the M1 cpu from a hardware pov, signals a win for end users. We now have another major cpu player with enough money to flood the market with products ranging from ultra-thin client laptops to huge pro workstations, so i expect AMD and Intel prices are about to be adjusted in the near future towards competitiveness. Although i can't say enough how it's all depended on swift soft support from 3rd parties for Apple's bet to be truly fruitful and many 3rd party devs are just mad at Apple right now, and macOS BigSur has all lifestyle sht nobody serious in computing cares about and some insane amount of control forced upon the end user.
    Cheers.
PS: Judging by the remarkable build Apple did on the last Intel based Mac Pro, it is obvious they do have some people who know how to design a professional workstation box. I am eager to see what they 're going to do with their next workstation, now that they have all cards in their own hands.

Hi, may I ask what's the latency from the windows computer's like? I'm using a macbook pro 2015, very happy with the device, but not the 2014 haswell CPU. Considering to get a cheap, used small PC to run audiogridder and offload half of the "mixing" plugins and use the producing plugins on the mac. Do you print a lot of audio files in your workflow? It'd be very helpful for me if you can let me know. Thank you

Latency is 5ms. that's one ethernet port pluffed directly into the other.
Yes, I print a lot and tend to commit especially with sound design.
So far so good everything works. It's running under pretty well under rosetta and it seems fine. I lost Fat Chanel (that i've paid for but no biggy) I will load some heavy sessions over the next few days. I'm sure it's going to be way better when it's Native.

I have been telling this to everyone, from the maid who dusts off houses to the richest guy on earth:
Sell your MBP 2015 and buy an M1.
I bought a MBP mid 2015 Dual graphics for 600 (kind of a steal, was in very good condition too) and sold it just when the M1 popped up,
    for 1000 bucks.
What I did with that money? Yes, you guess right, I bought an M1 MB Air (Gold), right after my Windows Nitro 5 Laptop exploded... (won't ever buy a Windows machine unless I am desperate to play a game I love...)
    I fracking love my MB.
Still getting the gist of it since it seems there are some games you can play with this thing, and I haven't really tested its full potential
with Logic or Reaper because I am waiting on a new interface.

I’ll buy later when the softwares are ready and when they release a 2nd iteration of the new product. I normally don’t buy first gen products, to reduce risks. I use too many stuff that doesn’t work with the M1 yet. Even if I use Logic as my main DAW, I will wait the second iteration. The audiogridder setup is for short term and maybe live purposes. Just want to know what it’s like. I agree M1 is a leap.

Yeah, you're totally right, I was gonna wait too, but as I mentioned my Nitro 5 laptop exploded so I had to buy one asap, otherwise, how was
I gonna get my porn daily dosage?!?!?! I mean, Youtube videos entertainment?

which M1 Mac woud you buy right now if price wasn't a concern?
to me, it seems MacMini offers best thermal performance and connectivity although being cheapest :chilling:

Well, it's cheaper because doesn't include monitor or keyboard. Anyways, if you already have (and compatible) it's a good price.

Because the headphone output sounds like azz.
It only sends a "good" signal to 100 or less Ohms headphones.
    I have 2 Sennheiser sets of headphones: HD599SE $150 and HD820 $1900.
I have never heard my HD820 sound so bad (DIRTY as shit and garbled to the 100000 power).
With the HD599SE it sounded decent/pretty (Lows, memium/lower mids //if that's a concept) but medium highs and highs sounded harsh.
I don't know how they have managed to sell that many units honestly.
In the Superbestaudiofriends forum know UAD is trash, RME is meh at the best, and Chifi (if you're into DACs) is the worst shit in this planet.
I tell you right now I still use the Scarlett 2i2 FIRST GEN and it kills the UAD and RME's headphone output.

But probably you are less exigent than I, and probably any cheapo interface will suffice.

Right now I am waiting on my refund so I can test the Clarett 2Pre (because the Scarlett 2i2 has some decent sound quality).
Probably the best combo would be the Audient id22 or id44 with a good Dac like the Bifrost 2 (Schiit Audio), connected via spdif (optical).
But since the Audient id22/44 are usb I still don't think they will suffice, since usb still carries some electrical noise (or something!) no matter what (I've had the id44, not that bad, was sturdy as shit, to me drivers were just fine).

The UAD worked with the M1

If you wanted to ignore me and still go the UAD route, don't get the Solo. Get at least the Twin Duo because you will need more than one chip for DSP stuff (1 plugin can shoot up your DSP from 10% to 95%).

If I were you, and it seems you don't mind not having portability, I would just wait for the new iMacs: Micro/mini leds for the screen (although probably won't be implemented to them only the 14 and 16" Macbooks).
Or wait for the aformentioned Macbooks, and then buy full specced.

But if you want to buy right now right nowwwww then yeah, the Mini 16Gb Ram and 2Gb SSD.

I got this docking station for my M1 MB Air and it works, I don't even need to use the original Apple's power cable:
    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B086DS5Q6K/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Using my M1 with my LG OLED TV... looks awesome and performs awesome so far.

so, anyone bought the M1 yet to share thoughts?

I'm still hesitant about its lacking 16GB ram,

I can already make use of 32GB ram on my hacky without doing anything heavy, with disk swap being already used a little:
