    Hi guys,
I am using PT 12.3 and it is slow asf on Windows 10. Are there any tips and tricks to make PT 12.3(AUDIOUTOPiA) release work on Windows 10? I don't want to go back to Windows 7!
It is installed on SSD hard drive. My system resources are above minimum and for your info I must say that PT 10.3 works like a charm on Windows 10 but PT 12.3 is slow asf. It just does not work like 10.3.

You should update to 12.5. Problem solved.

I use both, 12.3 and 12.5 under Win10. They performe the same. Scan is the same...I guess you got a specific issue.
Try to optimize the Win10 following the Avid guide lines.
Google for it. It is easy to find.
    Goog luck!

open the task manager and observe how the system load is. Especially who is using the most memory and cpu power.
    Maybe your antivirus reacts allergic...

    Specs? Desktop or Laptop?

Even if you meet the minimum specs, how your system is configured (hardware & software) determines performance with DAWs such as Pro Tools, Performer & Samplitude/Sequoia as examples.

Is it running slow slow with just a few audio tracks & no plugins or, does it get sluggish as you start adding plugins?
    What plugins are use using?

Is your SSD workstation grade (not server) or inexpensive consumer grade?

Is the system memory all the same speed, type & manufacturer?
Is the memory in the correct slots (desktop motherboard with four memory slots and only two occupied)?

What services are set to run at startup?

Questions could gone on forever as most problems are system specific. More info = possible solution(s).

    Happy tracking!

    "PT12.3 slow asf"
What do you expect from an ancient (industry standard blah blah) software?

If my issue is specific why is that 10.3 works perfectly fine on my system?!
It runs slow with few audio tracks and no plugins and it gets worse if I add plugins and specially audio clips!
I am using LAPTOP MSI GS73VR 6RF Stealth Pro
I have searched alot but could not fix the problem. I even optimized according to avid guidelines. Some people say the problem is specifically NViDiA graphics cards. I am not sure. JUST HELP ME!

My current system has an NVidia Quadro. No issues (even on latest 2021 driver).

System specific because of your hardware & software setup. Not knowing exactly what that is will yield little in the way of possible solutions.

Have you tried uninstalling & reinstalling? Could be a bad install or corrupted registry entries. Just guessing at this point.

Keep in mind that Pro Tools is resource heavy. Ideal minimum is:

    4C/8T CPU
16GB 2933MHz memory with tight timings
    500GB SSD for OS
For storage of samples, projects, instruments libraries:
1TB 7200RPM Workstation/Enterprise grade HD (with large cache) or
500GB to 1TB Workstaion grade 2.5" SSD or
500 to 1TB NVMe in PCIe card or motherboard M.2 slot. Should be mid level or better with on-board cache memory & high read/write speeds.

Power supply should be 650W 80+ Gold. CPU & Video can spike to double of what the rated wattage draw is claimed to be. Especially on Intel CPUs. These short spikes can result in thermal throttling.

At one point I completely reinstalled the Win 10 (By formatting the hard drives completely)
But the issue persisted. It just happens with PT 12.3 & 12.5 (12.5 is worse)
In addition to being slow I sometimes get access denied 0xblahblah errors when nudging audio clips or when number of clips increase.
I don't know what exactly the problem is. pretty frustrating.

Still. Exact system specs would aid anyone interested in helping with your issue.

    prebuilt? What brand & model?

    Custom built:
Motherboard, CPU, memory, video card, HDD, SSD, power supply, external attached devices.
Are you using internal audio with ASIO driver or external audio interface with ASIO?

plz post two screenshots of your task manager, one sorted by cpu load, one by ram load

yeah quadcore64 is right...hardware specs are also important...

and check what is set as your power plan!!!!!

you can add to your power plan the "ultimate performance" option by running cmd and paste
    Code:
    powercfg -duplicatescheme e9a42b02-d5df-448d-aa00-03f14749eb61

How am I supposed to give you exact system SPECS besides the link to the model that I have posted?
In addition, I am mostly using Focusrite 2i2 with ASIO while working in PT.
My power plan is set as High performance ( I had optimized that to avoid glitches too)

the link you provided had no specs for your processor, but i guess you have a i7 6700HQ, right? so your hardware is good enough...
so maybe there is a driver problem...or something is running in the background, as i said, post two images of the task manager, this would help, either to find the problem or to rule it out...

PT is only ugly if you don't set it up with good colours (and saturation) in the options. Then it's far nicer, clearer looking and workable than the neon shower of shit that passes for other DAWs. Used studio one for years and it just got more and more garish. Cubase looks like a day glo kid's toy. Logic lacks relief... the rest are gimmicks over workflow.

PT12.5 kick's ass, looks and workflow wise *IF* you know what you're doing and you're not just doing midi related/EDM "music" but actual recording of real instruments, vocals, editing and mixing them. Hands down the best with the most logical overview on the edit window.. everything in one place. I agree lots of pros make it LOOK ugly cos for some reason they have the tastes of an ape and slap just any colour on the tracks and name tracks poorly, lay them out badly, don't resize them, don't use just a few colours but loads of horribly conflicting colours... but as said, you can make studio one look just as ugly AND that lacks the clarity (esp in the waveform drawing) that PT has.

Anyhow PT AU release been working here for years, sure it has bugs like any DAW and we really could do with a 2020 ultimate release!!!! but it's no worse than any other DAW I used concerning bugs, and some of them - like S1 are TERRIBLE with bugs - dangerous stuff like losing takes, crashing during bounces, bounces taking forever.. PT is 5x as fast for mos things (inc track freezing and comit/mix bounce) and crashes less once it's set up. It's very sensitive to bad plug-ins (cracks) though.

remove all the video stuff form the dirs if you don't need it and disable it in prefs.

I turned off the wireless. Opened a light session on pro tools with couple of audio clips and played the loop.
In addition, I had tried to switch to GPU for running pro tools but that did not work.
