Hey, anyone having problems installing the latest k'd Kontakts out there? Not sure who the cracker is, but I'm getting an error in install that says, "specified file path too long: C:\ProgramFiles\Common Files\Native Instruments\Kontakt\Database.

That's not over 260 characters.

I could probably go install the portable one,but I'd rather have the full.

 

I know it's a bit late but anyway that's how i fix it:

During the installation, keep the error screen and:
Open the windows explorer (Win + E)
In the navigation bar, go to: C:\ProgramFiles\Common Files\Native Instruments\
Delete the "kontakt" folder
Create a new folder called "kontakt" and inside create another folder called "database"
Finally click in "Try again" in the installation screen.

 

I would like to suggest you to try LongPathTool program to resolve this issue.

The error is due to Windows’ 260‑char limit. Fix it by:

Spoiler: instructions

1. Move installer to a short path, e.g., C:\Temp.
   
   
2. Run as Administrator.
   
   
3. Map a deep folder to a drive:

subst X: "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Native Instruments\Kontakt"

1. Use Long Path Tool if needed.

 

If you're on win10 or later you can fix the path limit thing to a point.

To enable long paths, Open the Run dialog, type gpedit.msc, and press Enter. Navigate to Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > System > File System. Find and enable the "Enable Win32 Long Paths" option.

There's a modification you can make to the registry as well (which mirrors the gpedit setting above)...
Set the registry value at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\FileSystem to LongPathsEnabled with a value of 1.

Keep in mind that even with long path support enabled, individual components of a path cannot exceed 255 characters. Also applications that do not support long paths will still be limited to the traditional 260-character limit. But by enabling these settings, you can at least proceed to work with file paths longer than 256 characters in Windows.
