Yes, but must correct 2 paths in 4000 activate.cmd, and remove Read Only parameter ir Program Files\Common Files\Softube\SSX folder (from some Console 1 SSL SL 4000 E-Series files)

When you activate strip, go to your DAW and save this preset in Console 1 plugin.
Close DAW, activate another strip and save in DAW plugin preset.
After saving all strip presets, you can change strips in your DAW from plugin preset!

Thanks for the help guys, made it work. So I guess with this method you can only use one specific strip per project? If those work with the hardware, do they work as expected? I mean, if someone buys a hardware controller, can you use it normally?

Is there any way of simply displaying (showing) the Console 1 OSD window from the desktop (Windows 10)? That would simplify things. After all, "Console 1 On-Screen Display (x64).exe" is automatically loaded in the "Startup" apps when you launch Windows 10 but it does not DISPLAY. A Hotkey to Show/Hide would be most useful. Thanks!

 

To display OSD window you must uncheck Track Names in Console 1 settings. (depends on which DAW you are, some shows name, Reaper not show. Studio One 5 VST3 show name, but VST2 no)
Then tick on Console 1 plugin "click to set track name" -> OSD windows open -> NOT ENTER name and NOT to close this OSD window,
but unload Console 1 plugin, then load ir again. Bingo - OSD not ask for names.
Close OSD window in Task Manager. If needed, open it again from Windows Start Menu -> Console 1 On-Screen Display (x64)
The OSD window is basically not needed at all, just to see which version of ssx is loaded.

I've reworked my method and simplified it.
Now you can unpack the archive to any convenient location.
Unzip the file wherever you want, but not too deep - for example, to the D: drive.
The size is reduced, since only strips from the 4000 console are stored.
To work correctly, you must remove the "Read-only" attribute for all *.ssx and *.txt files in "c:\Program Files\Common Files\Softube\SSX\" "Console 1 SSL SL 4000 E-Series*".
I also added "American Class A" and "Grand Channel".
Before using it, you can delete the "Channel Strip" folder in " %AppData% \ Softube\Console 1\Presets\ " - it will be created when you first run activate. cmd.

Unckeck "use daw track name" in vst2 and Vst3. Insert a first console plugin. Click to enter name but don't touch anything. Unload the console plugin then load a new one.Click on shape, eq, comp buttons and use the console parameters for mixing. The console icone must be loaded in the taskbar.
Save as track template or fx chain. The sound is great and the shaper gives so many tones.Cheers.

Phew, its a lot of tweaking for such a sucky interface..At least American Console has a VST verison! i think they all will eventually

 

Yahh haha i still remember 5 years ago trying to figure it out how to use the audioutopia version.. facts, back then the console1 dont have the integration of track follow yet with daw, so much trouble just to switch channel.

actually to think of it, beside SSL4000E, XL9000K and British Class A, all the other have its own VST version.

 

Does the hardware Console 1 need Ilock or only plugins? Or both?

I can't find the read only and donn't know how to edit the .ssx. And you are talking about all SSL SL 4000 E-series text or just one ?
