Is Mac / OSX fading out?

Over the last few months visiting the 'sister site' I have noticed that there are fewer and fewer Mac OSX posts for software and more Windows software being posted.

Someone mentioned briefly that Mac OSX is fading out and people are favouring windows more nowadays but I didn't take much noticed of him

But now looking at it...could he be right?

I mean...obviously for me it isn't the end of the world because I can just put windows on my Mac mini & MacBook Pro but would rather use OSX

Originally I started music production using a Windows machine back in 2012 but around 2016 moved to Mac because I was fed up with the constant blue-screens and issues I was getting

I have tried to go back to windows on my MacBook Pro late last year, however I didn't particularly like the user experience, however I feel if what the guy said on the sister site is true, then it may force my hand to go back to windows

this argument has been going on here ever since AS was created (and even before), windows Vs OSX

more windows users = more testing available

nothing to see here, move on

(personally not had a blue screen incident since leaving win98)

Yes, OSX faded out years ago.
It's been called macOS for a long time now.

Not only it's not fading out, it's getting more popular every year, because of how much they invest in marketing (instead of paying their workers in India etc)...
It's not '95 anymore, Windows is fine; if you are getting blue screens, blame yourself and your shitty hardware and software, wow.

macOS crackers are just tired of all the annoying updates, M1 might be the final nail in the coffin
could change at any time but i would say thats unlikely?

Apple tightening their chokehold on their hardware and software + scores of whiny users who demand a shitload from the few who actually bother to crack the software + groups or individuals giving up because of second statement = few Apple goodies.

As far as the slim pickings, I'm grateful for what comes through every now and then. Anyway, wasn't it try before you buy, right?

Windows is far more popular, more goodies are available, and if you know what you're doing, you can avoid blue screens almost entirely.

Well thanks for that comment, made me feel a load better...not!

Considering back from 2012 - 2016 I didn't know that much about specking out computers etc and I was learning

Would this be the way you talk to someone who is learning? - I know I wouldn't

I know way loads more know

I just hope there aren't any newbies who ask you for advice

It's a fact that many people switched to Apple thinking it would turn them to make good music (I know a few).
Then many of these people complain because there's not as much warez as there is for Windows.
If you can afford buying a Mac why not giving a try to those software trials and consider buying what you like the most? (There are plenty of sales in summer, black friday, christmas...)
I'm not trying to persuade people to go legit. Just be thankful for what you have and stop complaining in Win releases.
I've had enough with negative replies in MacOS releases instead of giving thanks to the people that makes them save some money... Like come on guys, if you don't like a release just don't leave a crappy comment:rofl:

macOS is officially over as far as sister site is concerned.

No upload since end of last year. Clearly the teams have no intentions of addressing macOS users further. Oh well, it has been a nice ride...

    I'd say exact opposite,
M1 is the beginning of new era, where Microsoft has been failing for past 8 years (talking about ARM/RISC), Apple managed to succeed

it's just because iLok sh!t is not that easy to break in walled-garden MacOS, compared to colander Windows,
and yea, the issues with Windows 10 remain practically same past 5 years, so if you don't like issues, you won't ever like Windows, simple as that

Don't know. Don't care. What's stopping you having both? Best of both worlds.

If one switches from Windows to Apple he/she made a choice between different philosophies. And normally knows that.
While MS with Windows tries to be the one-size-fits-all plattform, Apple has the philosophy to give their customer a platform with less choices but more stability and the need to stay inside Apples infrastructure more an more (walled garden as @tzzsmk says.

Now we have to decide what we want. The relativle higher flexibility of Windows with a little less security (OS lets us freely use unsecure software like warez) and a more technical approach. Or we go with Apple and have a little less flexibility but more security and a more design oriented (and of course more expensive) approch.

What we can't have is Windows's insecurity (letting the user install even unsecure software results in lower overall system security) and Apples curated security at the same time on the same OS.

Therefore I'm quite sure Apple will not lower the bar, so warez will be lesser in the future.

So a decision for Apple is also a decision to live without carcked software in the (nearer) future. And thst is nothing to blame the crackers for.
It's a decision I made. And most of the time if I buy an Apple I have enough money to buy the software I need (not necessarily tha I want)

If Hackintosh is an alternative for you to have the advantages of both worlds you could ask @tzzsmk he's an expert on that field.

Yeah because pirate software is how you determine if a business is failing, not by the actual sales numbers..
