Cool r2r just released the new softube amp room, disliked the old one but this might be interesting :)

Have had Amplitube and Guitar Rig (as it comes with komplete). Always hated using them cuz they sounded like shit and require way too much effort to get a decent tone. Yeah, cleans can work but anything into the overdrive, distortion area sucked balls.
Some months ago I came upon this thing about a buffer before your ad/da. Tried a pedal. Used my Line 6 HD500x for its 4 or 5 impedance selections as well. Subtle Improvement.

IK mutimedia had a hefty price cut sale on their Z-Tone boxes over the holiday, so I jumped on it. Big improvement. Also went against better judgement and upgraded to Amplitube 5. Thankfully seems like a big step up in sound, (just loading an amp doesn't sound like shit right off the bat like before... at least the handful I tried, heh) especially now that I can variable dial in any impedance plus a couple other enhancements.

Was gonna try some Neurals before I got A5. Kinda put it off though cause everything seemed geared towards the 'brootulz', lol.
Plini seemed more my choice out of all of them, although someone posted somewhere the Nolly is a good all around. Shoulda maybe bought on during the sale, I dunno.

    Very interesting input.
I'm not sure we're there yet, time will tell. Some types of deep learning technologies work for one thing but not others. Anyways Acustica Audio technology by design can't emulate medium to high distortion. Well, unless you have a NASA computer farm. That being said, when applied right on the right hardware it sounds really good.

Oh, and I almost forgot how good the Mercuriall Tri-Axis sound. I didn't use it basically because my CPU was prehistoric. My new one is just slow lol. And just as I write I see Softube Amp suite was just vaccined by R2R. Man, the "work" piles up. And that's great

Oh, it's an Acustica one. Now I understand the classy behavior of the guy from above

Tried the softube amp room, definitely a love/hate sort of sound :)

Its like while THU, Neural goes for a mix ready sound when opened softube its like your speakers turn into an amp in your room. This means a lot of presence, high-end one may have to dial down...

Since the algorithms for both the hardware and software are the same, the only difference is in the AD and DA converters. That means Line 6 got the input side right on the hardware units.

One reason I can state is that Helix Native is the most powerful out of all the products in the Helix family, if you turn off Hardware Compatibility. That, and the extremely flexible signal chain choices, and not to mention the snapshot feature too, make it a very interesting proposition for those who can take their laptops to gigs. You can basically run four fully-fledged, detailed signal chains in a single patch to cover all your tones for a song, or even a whole set. Where on the hardware units having four amps in the chain doesn't leave much power for anything else, Helix Native won't break a sweat, even on an older laptop.

Me too i think it was just called Nebula (I might even had the installer on some spare usb disc somewhere) and i think i started to use it in 2007 and you had to use a Nvidia graphic card to free up some resources.
After that the Nebule II came and then the Nebula 3.

Gotta try that now. The NFO was hilarious!

Thanks for reminding! I'd forgotten about it too.

Here is what i have to say to everyone and i have done so for ages still ppl never ever seems to understand.
Run the bloody plugins thrue the same IR turn off everything they keep running in the background if it is possible and of course the built in cab/Ir
Then try to mimic the sound of every ampsim you have to match eachother as close as you can get
Play a loop so you dont pick harder or softer etc.
And then be amazed how IMPORTANT the IR is to the sound.
I say it is more than 70% probably even 80% or more

Spent 1 good hour on it, like one good hour playing the guitar with it! I load my usual setup (slap delay compressor blablabla), 2 minutes tweaking around, bam! got the tone, the JCM is.. real! I used to own few 70s marshalls (JMP, 2203, bluesbreaker) and Amp Room gave me that familiar feelings. I don't know how to describe it, but vintage amps have some secret sweet spot (varies from years and models), if you hit it right the amp will scream, this one, it did. 1st amp sim (of marshall) that did. though i haven't really finished exploring the world of amp sim, just 10 or so. Just for clarification, I'm not a guitar solo player, I'm more to the punk rock school of thought.

I don't know about modern hi-gain amp players, but for vintage tone lovers like me, I can say with confidence they absolutely nailed the marshall tone (maybe because they had help with the marshall people, license and all).

Side question, are you using 3rd party IRs? I have the Iridium but only used it with factory IRs.

Yay...finally an informative thread that is not laced with off topic, and childish bullshit.

I picked up my 1st guitar 54 yrs ago, and have been steadily performing live since(other than lock down). I started using amp sims live when the 1st Guitar Rig came out, and I must say, it sucked. I finally learned how make things work for me about 4 yrs ago. I've used every amp sim I could get my hands on, but until the recent wave of upgrades and new developers, I never had the feel of a real amp. I am testing the newest Neural, Amplitube, and Helix Native.....quite a change! No doubt, Neural is killer!

For me it was mercuriall which first got it right, likely cause finally someone (some-what) nailed the poweramp tone aspect.

After that from one brand to another things finally started to sound decent, before that I only used plug-ins to layer on real recording as alone they sucked no matter how much I tweaked them.

Tried the presets first which was a mistake for me :) on second attempt created my own chain (there isn't a lot of stuff in it anyway) and then it started to feel nice.

But still finding the highs bleeding too much to my liking, next I'll experiment with eq'ing that.

dont play guitar at all, but do use amp sims with hardware analogue synths and electric piano...most of them sound awful, but having tried the cory wong ndsp plugin i have to say i am very impressed, its worth mentioning that the shimmer reverb on this thing sounds better than my strymon pedal.

Yes, but 3rd party IRs need to be 24bit 96kHz, not 44 or 48kHz. I use the stock IRs and the are cool.

Very impressed with Neural DSP Archetype: Cory Wong; on the other hand I'm totally unimpressed with Softube Amp Room.

Nice. Haven't tried yet, but you can tell only by looking the marketing the Marshall ones are the main characters of the movie.
