Hmmm I use one of the worst combinations out there with W10 and S1 and it works like a charm as well.

    my experience as engineer.
If you can afford a rick, the first is record that bass with a correct rig.
I use avalon pre 737 . . . a littl comp and eq. Try to record with the most dinamic range with no clipping.
After this , when mixing i route the mono output to a sansamp bass driver , conected in my analog console ( channel 12, input 5 in my case) and play in realtime with the sound in the mix. Time to evaluate saturation an tone with sansamp and console.
To automatize i prefer daw, and use a ssl native plugin. But not for sculpt sound, only to envelopes or cut freq. in some part, etc etc . . .
    And this is . . .
When ready i return the entire mix from console to another channel and print mixbus.

Not strictly a compressor, or a bass guitar tool, but Brainworx Subsynth is a sick puppy for dialing in the exact amount of low end to any bassline. Also it's very good for adding oomph to any recorded track which was recorded too tinny.

Might be worth a shot, I like it.
