ALL of them. Though most just barely touch the signal or pass-thru adding only their color. UBK, S73 and Satin are doing most of the heavy lifting.

Yes, the maximizer gets me the correct LUFS I need for upload.

So I load this chain of fx at the start of my composing session. It allows for quick and dirty mixes that immediately translate to phone and car.

As the song progresses I continuously switch the chain off/on, so I have a reference point of where I want the song to go. As I start adding instrument channel fx (NLS, 670, Slate Tape and J37) and group bus fx (vpre-73, NLS, Slate VCC and Satin), I dial back on the influence of the mix bus chain.

All these channel and bus fx barely touch on the signal, and are mostly there for harmonics. Like the J37 for example, unless I want the listener to actually hear its J37 emulation, it's barely doing anything. But stacking all these fx barely touching the signal, gets me from dead mixes to living ones.

The real work of EQ and compression etc is then mostly done by FabFilter EQ/MB and things like Decapitator/API 2500.

The songs I work on are usually a mix of rock/funk/jazz.

Here's an example of a song I just started working on. fx is the one with all the fx stacked, nofx without the stacks (hope I got the levels matched right). There is no mixing done in both versions (just blindly stacking fx for quick results), other than some EQ/comp on the bassguitar 100hz region for obvious reasons.

Zippyshare links (don't forget to flip the SD switch to HD on the right ;) )
    200113-Pbass-fx.wav
    200113-Pbass-nofx.wav

I hope this example demonstrates what I've been talking about, and please let me know your views of course.

If you want I can remove the files. I am definitely not asking for mix reviews, since nothing has even been mixed. They are just examples of the philosophy behind the chains we were talking about.

Btw, what is this topic about anyway? Just people posting chain lists without deeper discussion?

For me is just a bus comp (sometimes a Diy SSL hardware, sometimes a Pulsar audio Mu) and a FF pro-q3. I add Ozone if i need to do a quick master. I think we don't need more if the arrangement and mix is good. Other things must be done during mastering.

No, they can stay of course and they are interesting. I just want that this thread does not drift away in endless discussions like most of the other ones I see daily. Thanks for sharing! Sounds nice. Seeing all those plugins in the chain made me sceptical.

I find that Voxengo is kind of either ignored or underrated by many people because of their basic GUIs (which I love,) and the fact that they don't have promo spiel extolling how their plugins will yield fire tracks that'll melt speakers, but Voxengo is wicked solid.

Hello, my last Mixbus Chain for a 'Hard Rock Mix' was the following:

    1. Linear Phase EQ from Logic, just to trim off everything beneath 25-30Hz, and insert it in Mid/side
Mode, so i can do a Low-cut just on the Sides @ about 160-220Hz. Try it!
    2.Logic Multimeter, for metering.
3.Waves J37 Tape Emulation for Thickness and Mojo.
4.Waves API 560, just for Flavour.
5.Waves Puigchild, also just for Highmid Flavour, no GainReduction.
6.Waves Puigtech, for Flavour and for Loudness Effect. Bump @100Hz and @10Khz, just a no-brainer!
    7. PA bx_townhouse Compressor, main compression, 3-4 db GainReduction @ 2:1 Ratio.
    8. Any Limiter, in my case, Logic Adaptive Limiter. Just to get the right LUFS to compete online!
    9.Logic Loudness Meter, for metering.

if you are interested, i can also post my chain for Electronica.

    Greetings easy_kid

yeah you're right. I saw that from a well know professional mixer, who inserted just the API-560
on the master track. He did that with the one from Universal Audio. i do not have that, i just have the waves one.

The trick he explained was, that Universal Audio measured all the exact amplification stages of the real EQ.
And when you insert it, without doing EQ moves, you have another flavour on your mixbus.

The waves one does it not so good, but with the Universal Audio one its really great!

One thing i do also just for flavour is the Fairchild Compressor, it does a really cool Highmid thing
especially for Guitar Rock/Metal Songs. but it works with every Genre i think.

Topdown Mixing Attempt, with a few Things right at the start from a session, is a thing that
worked for me for years now.

    Greetings easy_kid

Alright, I just tested the Waves API 560 for color. I duplicated a track of mine, added 30 instances of it, flipped the phase and hit play. I heard no audio. I don't think the Waves version is actually doing anything?

you're right, its the universal audio one thats doing a bit of colour or mojo.
i leave it on, for subtle eq moves.
yeah its kinda funny :D, do you leave your 2bus without processing?
