The Glue is for glue. Obviously :D ahahaha
FET for aggressive punch mostly, slam...dirty...
VCA are way cleaner/transparent, better to work with attacks and transient heavy channels, busses, masters, for glue, gives cleaner punch, flatter for me (in not bad sense). You can glue with varimu fairchildren stuff, but this is another story a bit.
Opto - I usually use this on vox stuff, sometimes with FETs in combo.
Can't give you some list of compessors now, it is too late... And I have shitloads of plugins...
If quickly: fetpressor FET, the glue VCA, ddmf mde/mdestereo TUBES, pulsar's mu TUBES, blackrooster vla2a/vla3a OPTO, kotelnikov CLEAN..... TrackComp2 as all in one.... Zillions of others....airwindows experiments... Bla bla bla
Vintagewarmer2 - > OTT -> loudest cleanest clipper - > true peak cleanest punchiest limiter: the end of my dynamic story in all good/bad senses.... Ursa boost, inflator, kazrog true iron: as small extrasmall dynamic killers and saturators if I need more. But this is not the end at all...

Do you want to know, why people still want superwidest ever stereo and near 0dB rms? Because they want their tunes to be loud on their mobile phones and tablets' micro speakers with their own volume limits. More dynamic tracks are not for that. Who wants to listen to ultra hifi wide dynamic audio in megaloud underground trains or streets where traffic with over9000 cars? Such overslamming is popular in Russia, tiktok etc. My friend was looking for very popular song (he knows that original studio quality song), but he wanted that overclipped version from tiktok with overall fart bass and drums and distorted to death vocal messed in digital aliasing paradise and intermoduleishens

The Distressor is reacting to the BD, the dbx to the synth and the TLA is an EQ.

Oh so that's the shoes

Is there a good vst emulation of Distressors?
Is there any equivalent vst of TLA EQ? Maag EQ? Or this is something different?

I'm sure you'll find some comparisons at YT, but I find this one useful and easy to use http://www.empiricallabs.com/arousor/

Just reading the comments on it now, you might be better with the previous version as people seem to be having issues with the lastest one

I tend to use the compressor in Scheps Omni Channel more and more. Three types to choose from, VCA, FET and Opto. Versatile, as deep as you want it to be and with character.

Maag not. TLA EQ2 is a tube EQ. AFAIK, it's not emulated by any plugin - so far.

i also think RVOX is a really good vocal compressor for beginners, but also professionals use it like 'michael brauer'
in every session he starts. the thing is that in RVox not only compression is introduced to the region or audio file, but also there is
a EQ thing under the hood. i think that it is a shelf at 8k. don't take me by word, but there is not only compression. you can look it up
in the manual pdf. my got-to compressor for vocals is after de-eesing and EQ the 'blue stripe 1176', because it introduces higher harmonics
and some grainy thing, which lets for example your vocal sits on top of your mix.

a thing that i learned recently for heavy guitars, is the 'andy sneap multi band compressor trick'. you bypass all bands, except the low mid band. you set it from 70Hz to 350Hz. When your heavy guitars do palm mutes, your multi band just ducks the low mids to about 3-4 db gain reduction. really useful!!

The stock Logic Compressor is also a Beast, because it can emulate all Vintage hardware compressors, like LA-2A, 1176, SSL, Focusrite Red
Series. i mean what a gift! i think the one compressor you are looking for is a really good 'Bus Compressor' with a Sidechain low-cut.

i found mine in the waves ssl bus comp, but i switched to the PA bx_townhouse compressor, which is a highly modified vintage
SSL compressor. it sounds very good! i can recommend it! also if you look for a very simple compressor for transient rich signals,
like guitars and harmonica, try the waves LA-3A. just two knobs, dial your amount of compression in. ready!

try to think not only that a compressor does gain reduction, but think also that your signal gets enriched with higher harmonics,
and get a different flavour than before. Therefore it can stand more out of your mix!

i hope that somebody learned something!

    Greetings easy_kid
