My vote is for Vital: that thing is amazing. Unbelievable you can have the basic version for free considering the fact that it is fully functional.

this gonna be good thread im sure
we are looking for brightside and we are looking for best ones ..right i got this

    feb 2020 ,.ENTER TRITON
i remember i was sooo happy to see korg TRITON with rise with the other great korg plugins like
wavestation/other plugin collections poly/M1/ARP odessey ,great stuff really still going strong
and it serves me very well creating 80s sounds

and i will will mention ummet uzcan synth which released this year to take the jokes away early
and comments will focus on best choices
it was released 2020 with big disappointment)and its was really average trance sound with usual uzcan keys ,
down the line ,i hope uzcan can smell the coffee and (either create a better and stronger plugin 64bit or discontinue the updates
on that 32bit plugin, the world is changing so ,ummet must go with the flow and thats a free advice right here

2020 was the year falcon got the a better upgrade and stronger expansions for me as legit user
and im sure if flacon was cracked one day it will be BIGGer in popularity than all current plugins

lets hope you guys ride this memory lane and mention the best toys you got this year aswell

Well, I mostly shied away from acquiring moar plugins this year but a few standouts for me were

Vital by Vital Audio (like a lot of people)

A flexible wavetable synth, with a nice tonal quality (might not appeal to everybody) and you can get it for free, so didn't hurt to try.
Not much more to add, really.

Pendulate by Newfangled Audio / Eventide

This is a truly fucked up beast. It's really hard to describe in words, they describe it as a "chaotic monosynth" and that's pretty apt. The oscillators are based on chaos mathematics so you get these weird motions that are, well, completely chaotic but can be somehow and sometimes coaxed into these odd periodic modulations. Being mono it's not suitable for complex pads but for strange FX, bass and leads it's fantastic to spice up any track.

It's free but you can pay for a poly version which I haven't tried, as I'm yet to tame (if that's even possible) this monstrosity.

Guitar Rig Pro 6 by Native Instruments

When it comes to amp modelling, for guitarists and bassists this is an incremental upgrade (not a small one though), new better amp models and so on, if you use GR already this is a no-brainer.

However, for anybody else, it comes with all of the Mod Packs meaning 3 absolutely incredible modulation FX, 3 clever distortions, 3 modelled compressors by Softube and a cool reverb/delay on top of the existing 30 odd other components.

Add to that flexible modulation, splits, and crossovers you got the perfect multi effect for just about anything. Me likey.

    Not free, though.

TBProAudio DSEQ is my personal favorite. Apparently not on the same level as Soothe, but still a decent alternative, with a dev that works really hard and has issued countless updates. Love it.

As others mentioned, Vital and Pendulate are nice mentions too. It's cool to acknowledge that the freebies have gotten better and better this year. I mean those are some pretty solid tools right there.

Fabfilter Saturn 2 without a doubt best plugin of the year 2020:

and also TBProAudio DSEQ, a rather botched release followed by frequent updates, but solid usable plugin regardless!:

also iZotope Neoverb is a refreshing experience, especially for beginners:

Cosign for Saturn 2 & Kazrog True Dynamics.

I‘ll add Neold V76U73, especially on
    Drumsounds & Basses.
This thing is capable of making transients silkysmooth yet still punchy.
    Very cool tool.[IMG]

Just a follow up on my reply...
I would strongly urge everyone here to try this plugin.

Don't care for the guy, but take a listen to what it does (skip to 3:52).

It almost replaced the need for a typical approach to parallel compression when mixing but I also use it a lot for mid/side purposes, sound design, spicing up dly throws etc.
For $20 this is a beast of a plugin.

Benn Jordan / Flashbulb did a good video on this:
    5) Baby Audio Super VHS
    4) Ars Memorium for VCV Rack
    3) UVI Drum Replacer
    2) Vital
    1) Newfangled Audio Generate

Out of what I've been using, I would probably say Vital. Shame Stutter Edit 2 was a disappointment, as I love-love-love the first one.

edit: What he wanted to include, but came out after he put out this video is, Arturia V Collection 8

Soothe2 from January! Nearly on every bus here. And Gullfoss (was it from this year?) also very handy tool.
